High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

HIIT, high intensity interval training, seems to be the big thing in the health and fitness world right now. Utah college students are some of the main advocates for this type of exercise. My first exposure to this phenomenon was in 2009 with Shaun T’s Insanity workouts. Since then, I have fallen in love, especially since HIIT is packed with so many advantages. Here are just a few reasons why everyone in Utah should start a HIIT program.

HIIT is an ideal workout for anyone with a busy schedule. Shape Magazine reported that a 15 minute HIIT workout is much more efficient than an hour long jog on the treadmill. The American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting presented a 2011 study showing that just two weeks of HIIT improves your aerobic capacity as much as 6 to 8 weeks of endurance training. Come on Utah, what are you waiting for?!

For a broke college student like me, that is the best deal ever! The focus of a HIIT workout is pushing your heart to its max. The faster your feet the better!
