5 Things to Pack for a Week in the Maldives – The Essentials for a Memorable Island Holiday

If you are planning a week-long holiday in the Maldives, there will be several items that you should pack, such as suitable clothing, footwear, essential items and so on as described below.

1

Clothing for ladies

Since the Maldives is a beach destination, ladies should undoubtedly pack swimwear for their holiday on these islands. Another useful item of clothing to pack would be a kaftan as a cover-up for the beach; it will enable you to cover up from the rays of the sun when coming out of the waters. When it comes to general wear, ladies would be comfortable in airy and light summer dresses including long flowing dresses as well as mini-dresses, rompers, shorts and tank tops. On the other hand, since the Maldives is an Islamic nation, you should also pack some conservative clothing; these should cover the shoulders and knees and include casual pants, a suitable top and a scarf if you plan to visit local islands.

2

Clothing for men

In the Maldives, men would be comfortable in shorts and should also take swimming trunks for the beach. An accommodation choice to consider with direct beach access would be Niyama Private Islands Maldives where you could stay at a Maldives pool villa by the shore; this makes changing in and out of beach attire much easier too. Men may also take some crisp cotton t-shirts, stylish logger pants as evening wear (these should be light and breathable) as well as polos and other smart shirts for the evenings at the resort. A couple of light sweaters would be recommendable (for both men and ladies) in case you experience some cool breezes at night.

3

Footwear

In the Maldives, suitable footwear would include flip-flops and sandals and you may spend a lot of time barefoot; in fact, many resorts do not require any footwear in most places and you may spend your entire stay mostly barefoot if you so desire! However, you will be obliged to don footwear for dining at the restaurants of some resorts. For this purpose, and visiting attractions in Maldives, smart casual footwear would be suitable for ladies as well as men. You should also pack dive shoes if you intend to go diving, swimming or snorkelling in the islands. For ladies, high heels would not be needed.

4

Essential items

If you are travelling to the Maldives from a Western country, you should not forget to pack some effective sunscreen for your holiday. Items such as a sunhat and sunglasses would also come in handy in the tropical environs to protect you from the strong rays of the sun. When it comes to toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner and insect repellent, you should always try to pack environmentally friendly products to safeguard the delicate ecosystems of the Maldives.

5

Other useful things

Dry bags would be very useful for carrying your valuables when heading out to the beach, for a boating excursion, snorkelling or other activities. On the other hand, wet bags would come in handy for carrying wet clothes, muddied slippers and towels on your way back to your accommodation. Bringing an underwater camera would enable you to capture the memorable moments of your Maldives holiday including images from water sports like snorkelling, kayaking and diving. Although snorkelling equipment will be available at resorts, you may choose to bring your own.
