The largest harbor city in Northern China, Tianjin lies adjacent to Beijing, the countries' capital. Once the colony of many Western countries back in the 19th century, the city is home to an exotic culture and has plenty to offer visitors. Here are some top things to do while in Tianjin.

Visit the Great Walls a Huangya Pass

A rather quiet section compared to the huge crowds in Beijing, the Great Wall at Huangya Pass is located on the East Mountain, just 30 km north of Jiaxian County, in Tianjin. Consider visiting in time for sunset as the views of the steep slopes on both sides are stunning.

Go on a Ferris wheel ride- Eye of Tianjin

The only Ferris wheel in the world, built on a bridge, the Eye of Tianjin offers a panoramic 360-degree view of the city for a 30-minute ride, from the very center of the river. It's a great way to capture some stunning views of the city. The attraction can easily be reached from many a serviced residence in Tianjin including the likes of Somerset Olympic Tower Tianjin with ease.

Walk along Tianjin Haihe cultural square

Located right opposite the Tianjin Railway Station, Tianjin Square is a lovely place to enjoy a morning or evening stroll while taking the time to enjoy the fine architecture and bridges along the Haihe River. The nighttime view is especially charming with the area being lit up against the backdrop of colonial buildings.

Five Great Avenues

The five great avenues consist of five street names after five cities in the country including Chongqing, Chengdu, Dali, Munan, and Changde. You also have the option of either hiring a horse-driven carriage or renting a surrey bicycle to take in the sights. To learn more about the rich history of the area, consider signing up for a tour. The best time to visit would most definitely be in spring when beautiful blooms line each street.

Italian Style Street

Known as Italian Style Street, this spot is actually an area home to over 200 European restaurants and bars. In the former Italian Concession area, the buildings of the street still retain their originals structures. Locate right on the Haihe Riverside, there are plenty of restaurants that offer great authentic Italian food, live music in outdoor seating areas.

Visit the Tianjin Folklore Museum

Located at the centre of the Tianjin Ancient Cultural Street, this museum is home to over 2000 folk items. It's a great place to visit to discover the traditional life of the Tianjin locals. Here you can take in displays of clay culture, carving, weaving, and much more.

Sample the local cuisine

To sample the local food in Tianjin make your way to the old downtown area of Heping District in the city. There the Nanshi Food Street is the best place to enjoy local dishes including erduoyan fried cake, goubli, the guifaxiang fried dough twist, and much more.
