Where to go snorkelling in the Maldives – A few of the best locations!

The many islands of the Maldives are wonderful places teeming with marine life, there is an abundance of coral life centred across the reefs of the archipelago. The Maldives will always be one of the best places for snorkelling in the world.

Lhaviyani Atoll

Lhaviyani Atoll is additionally known as Faadhippolhu Atoll is positioned just off North of Malé Atoll. It consists of 54 islets, of which just 5 are occupied, the other 5 are resorts.
On the populated islands, beach snorkelling is done regularly in Olhuvelifushi and Kurendhoo. Of which the former is boarded by a lagoon towards the south side.
The 5 resort islands on the atoll are adjoined by either a lagoon or a house reef. These are great places for snorkelling and Maldives resort packages allows for perfect indulgence following your snorkelling adventures.
Kuredu has a 2km stretch of white sandy beach and is a favourite on the atoll.
Encircled by reefs that drop off into depths it allows for some amazing snorkelling in Lhaviyani. On the atoll, Kuredu is the central exit spot for snorkelling tours to Fahigili, which has an excellent reef 2km away from Kuredu's coast.

North and South Male Atolls

North and South Male atolls have over 80 low-lying coral reefs. Some 13 of them are occupied and over 40 are island resorts. Every island can be taken as a snorkelling point, most of these are fringed with either house reefs, a lagoon, or a reef drop-off. All these are easily approachable from the beach. With clear blue waters, the Male Atolls are perfect for snorkelling, a multitude of tropical reef fish will be there to greet you. You may also get animate sightings of sharks, manta rays, and turtles. It is generally thought that these island resorts dispersed in the atolls provide the most excellent snorkelling spots in the Maldives.
Almost 50 resort islands in the North and South Male atolls have either a house reef or lagoon close by or both.
The private islands will only be available to guests, so you can snorkel just a few steps away from your room.
Baros Maldives, Angsana, and Vabbinfaru are all found in North Male Atoll. Each has a beautiful house reef and recognised by some as among the best islands in the atoll for snorkelling. But you can still snorkel throughout all the islands in the atoll.
Kanuhuraa, Kuda Huraa, Furanafushi, Kanifinolhu, and Giraavaru are the nearest to the Male airport and reachable in 20 minutes by boat from the capital.
In South Male Atoll, try Embudu Island, and Biyadhoo Island and are both are great selections for snorkelers.

Ari Atolls

The Ari Atoll is a huge egg-shaped lagoon strewn with islands and reefs. It can be reached in around 30 minutes by plane from Malé. The atoll consists of 82 islands. Of these 36 are populated and 26 are island resorts. The atoll is one of the largest of the 22 in the Maldives. The Ari atoll is the following most travelled to next to the Malé atoll.
With the Baa Atoll, Ari Atoll is well-known n the Maldives for having the best quality in terms of the sea bed and for the diversity of its marine life. It is especially famous as the most suitable place in the archipelago for observing whale sharks.
