5 Non-Touristy Things to do in Bangkok -The road not taken

Bangkok has various attractions and entertainment for you to explore. But if you want to stray away from the mainstream activities, here are a few things you can do while in the country next time.

1

Visit the Nightingale Olympic department store

This department store was the city's first such place and was built back in the 1960s. This building has a Brutalist design and is considered quite an ugly thing that stands out when you look at today's architectural standards and designs. But back then this was the ultra-modern building in the area. This department store is filled with all sorts of luxury items from Europe. If you visit this place while in Bangkok you will find the oddest of items here, from tennis rackets to massage chairs and musical instruments. If you are looking for such quirky top attractions in Bangkok like these you might want to take a look at a local travel blog like Travel Bangkok Now. Nothing in the store has changed since it was opened in the 1960s. The owner of the store must be at least 90 and has been there her whole life. So this store is in fact, a living breathing museum of the older in Bangkok.

2

Sathorn Unique Tower

Also referred to as the Ghost Tower locally, this is a 49-floor building and is one of the most scary-looking and haunting architectural structures in the area. They began building the place in the early 90s, but they stopped the construction in 1993. This happened because the elected developer was arrested as he was trying to plot the murder of the then president of the Supreme Court. The case of this alleged plotting of murder went on for the next 15 years and people just stopped investing to build the Tower after it got a bad rap because of the developer. People who live in the area say that the tower is cursed and that is why they call it the Ghost Tower.

3

Siri Raj medical museum

Also known as the Museum of Death, this is yet another creepy place you might want to visit when in Bangkok. Located just across the river from the National Museum, this place is the complete opposite of that. If you have a high tolerance for disgusting things and a stomach made of iron; only then must you venture into this medical museum. The museum itself is divided into various sections and here you will be able to see the mummified remains of a serial killer and dozens of skulls that belong to his murder victims. Some of these skulls even have bullet holes in them.

4

Papaya Design and furniture store

Another place like the Nightingale Olympic store in Bangkok, Papaya is quite an interesting place to venture into if you have a love for antique goods.

5

Tuba Design furniture & restaurant

The owners of Papaya run this place too, thus you can expect the same level of an oddity here. Eccentric decor fills the place up and makes for a great photo op during your holiday.
