Visit the iconic Galle Fort Lighthouse

Enveloped by swaying palm tree the iconic postcard-perfect Galle Lighthouse is an instantly recognisable feature located in the historic Dutch Galle Fort. Dating back to 1848, the lighthouse is still very much in use and makes for a great location to take some fantastic Instagrammable photos.

Take a walk on the ramparts of the Galle Fort

A walk around the fort is around 2kms and is best done in the early morning or evening when the heat is manageable. You can follow the 'Fort Walk'' starting from the Clock Tower, pass the Main Gate and Dutch Reform Church. Before following the walls towards the Triton Bastion and Flag Rock.

There is nothing like catching a tropical sunset, and it's one of the best things to do in Galle, Sri Lanka. The best place to watch a sunset is the Triston Bastion towards 5.30 pm in the evening. Some sights and attractions to visit include the Dutch Reform Church which dates back to 1640, the Old Dutch Hospital, a former hospital dating back to the 18th century, All Saints Anglican Church, Meeran Mosque, and the Sudharmalaya Temple. This is best done during the early morning or evening as the heat can be fierce and draining during the day.
