When I began writing the many faces of leadership, this was a completely different post. I was leading you through, up and down some of our great creeks that I travel with our guests and clients on Horseback Adventures each summer, Big Game Hunters during the fall and on snow machines during our winter excursions.
The changes of leading in the modern world are often an issue for many people, whether they are at home or at work. Business, companies, entrepreneurs, educators and students are all questioning one way or another: what the changes of leading in the modern world will require of them and they worry that it will somehow destroy the world as they know it!
Leadership is what brought me to the #bealeader Community. Leadership is the core strength of a Professional Guide, and that is who and what I am. As the Lead Guide Trainer for one of the only state approved Professional Guide Training programs in Alaska, I am always working to become a better and stronger Leader for those that hope to become Professional Alaska Guides.

We all have situations as we lead from where we are, in whichever position we might be filling either as leaders of a business, company or group or as a teacher, instructor or parent, when it would be easier, on every level to simply do (or say) what would make everyone smile and fill their immediate worlds with unicorns and rainbows.
What does it really take to make a life in the bush of Alaska as a Professional Wilderness Guide? It takes the determination to do the best job possible, faith, a deep love and respect for the wild that surrounds us and grace.

Depending on who one asks or where one decides to look, there are 6-8 different Leadership styles that leaders tend to shape their actions and progress with and use to follow the vision and goals they have set themselves to discover or accomplish.
Simply put, there is a lot that so many people don't understand about ethics. If the difference between ethical and unethical was the same as the difference between legal and illegal behavior, what is ethical and what it is not would certainly be easier to understand.
We are Professional Guides. Leadership is more than a position to obtain or a skill to master for us. It is who and what we are; we are leaders.
Empowering is defined as giving someone the authority or power to do something. Pretty vague, eh? Hopefully, I can help to shed a little light and understanding what empowering and empowerment mean to me and can possibly mean for empowering you!

It is the disillusionment of destroyed trusts, gossip, betrayal and careless leadership. How does this happen?
