Top 05 Must-See Sights in Mirissa - For a blissful beach vacation!

Located in the southern part of Sri Lanka, Mirissa is a beautiful beach destination to go to and here are the top 5 things to do when you are in this town.

1

Check out the beach

This is one of the most obvious things to do when you are in a beach town and a popular holiday destination known for its beautiful beaches and infinite stretches of sand. The beach here is one of the most unspoiled and less crowded beaches on all of the island. The crescent-shaped stretch is filled with palm trees and you can walk on soft golden sands for miles on the end. You definitely must keep aside a few hours or at least a few days to just lay down here on the beach and enjoy the warmth of the sun on your skin and feel the salty breeze flow through your hair. The waves here are just the right size to have a dip in safely. If you are staying at Mirissa beach hotels the likes of Sri Sharavi Beach Villas & Spa, you will have your own private beach to enjoy.

2

Snorkelling in Turtle Bay

Snorkelling is an all-time favourite activity of people who visit the country and stay in beach destinations. But the Turtle Bay snorkelling in Mirissa just takes your experience to the whole other level. You will be able to swim by the side of the sea turtles when you go snorkelling here. If the water is clear enough, you will be able to spot these creatures along with many more elusive marine denizens. So try to go during the non-monsoon months of the year. The snorkelling area is located towards the southern end of the beach and is best for snorkelling in the wee hours of the morning when the tide is low. You can take your own equipment or hire yourself some snorkelling gear from your hotel or any water sports centre nearby.

3

Parrot Rock

This rock is located between the two bays of the town and is about 15 metres into the water from the beach. It's a tiny protruding island that is amazing for getting a panoramic view of the surroundings and the shores. You will be able to get some beautiful photographs from this Parrot Rock location. You can easily swim over to the island during the low tide hours and the water here is just about knee to waist-deep. The people here also use this as a fishing spot. This is one of the best spots in this beach town to watch the sunset from.

4

Whale watching

Mirissa is one of the best places on Earth to go whale watching, especially during the season that falls between November to April and July to September. The peak months for whale sightings are December, January and April. If you are lucky you will be able to even catch a glimpse of the rare blue whale or a sperm whale swimming by super close to you. You can always organize a customised whale watching excursion, but the best time to go out to watch these whales are early in the mornings.

5

Try out local food

No experience in any foreign country is complete without you trying their local cuisine and you definitely must taste a few authentic dishes in Sri Lanka during your stay in this town.
