The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment

We date from 1680. Today’s regiment was formed on the 1st July 2006 from the merger of three historic regiments of the North West: The King’s Own Royal Border Regiment, The King’s Regiment and The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment.

Based in Pirbright, 2nd Battalion Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment is a Specialised Infantry Battalion, part of the Specialised Infantry Group.Our Specialised Infantry soldiers and officers are mature, selected volunteers. They prioritise cultural understanding and empathy to enable them to operate successfully, increasing the Army’s contribution to countering terrorism and building stability overseas.

4th Battalion Duke of Lancaster Regiment

4th Battalion Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment is a Light Role Reserve Battalion based throughout the North West of England. It has a dismounted close combat role and provides trained manpower to the Regular battalions. It undertakes frequent training with our Regular battalions.

In common with most other British infantry regiments, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment and its predecessors have carried two Colours per battalion since the early eighteenth century (prior to which a Colour was carried by the ensign of each company). The Colours of each battalion are of identical design except for the battalion number in Roman numerals, which is embroidered near the top of each Colour and close to the pike
