Shwedagon Pagoda

The Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the definite highlights in the city and an iconic structure in Myanmar. This breathtaking stupa is completely covered in gold and is 105 meters in height. Inside the structure, sacred relics of the Lord Buddha are enshrined. According to many the stupa is over 2600 years old and makes it the most ancient pagoda in the world!

Sule Pagoda

Located close to the centre of downtown Yangon, the beauty and grandeur of the pagoda are mesmerising. It is not as crowded as other pagodas such as Shwedagon, which might be nice if you want some tranquillity and peace. Go there at night to admire the beauty of the place. There are quite a few other attractions to see as well such as City Hall, Maha Bandoola Park and the Baptist church.

Chauk Htet Kyi Pagoda

There is a 65-meter reclining statue of the Buddha, which is the main attraction in this pagoda. The artwork is very impressive! Take a close look at the feet of the Buddha where you will see around 108 symbols. These markings appear only on the feet of a Buddha and is a mark of his greatness among other men!

Swal Tawl Pagoda

The name of the pagoda means the tooth relic of the Buddha! A portion of the sacred relics is placed within the shrine in the pagoda. By contrast to some other temple sites, it is usually less crowded, and the temple premises is much quieter. Bask in the peace as well as the beautiful goldwork and sculpture of the temple.

Bogyoke Market

This is a popular spot for shopping for some souvenirs and is also known as Scott's market. Bargaining is accepted here and guests can start quoting half of the retail price. There is a newly built mall close by as well. Junction City Mall is right across the market and a bridge is there to connect the two. Head over to the mall if you want to do some further shopping.

Inya Lake

This happens to be the largest lake in Yangon and a popular place for the locals to hang out in the mornings and evenings. In the early mornings you will find many joggers around the lake and towards sunset young couples and teenagers take over.

Botahtaung Harbour

Despite the time you visit Botahtaung harbour it is a constantly busy place. Many people gather here to unload and transport goods. Catch a glimpse of what daily life is like for those who live in Yangon. You may be able to chat up with the locals as well. The ideal visit to Botahtaung harbour would be at sunset. You will get to witness a magnificent sunset, and if you are up to more sightseeing, the Botahtaung Pagoda is just five minutes away from the harbour.
