List of things to pack for your trip to Sri Lanka – for a tropical getaway!

Sri Lanka is a tropical island that is still developing but there are so many beautiful locations to visit and things to do on the island and here is what you must take with you to Sri Lanka.

1

Camera

It goes without saying that you should take your camera on a trip but while most of us think our phone camera is sufficient if you want to take stunning landscape photos it is best to take your camera with you.

2

BackPack

Taking a small backpack where you can pack your everyday items will make your life easier as you can pack that daily and take it along with you. You will have a lot of exploring to do if you wish to make the best of your time on the island which means you will be hiking and walking in nature.

3

Refillable bottle for water

While you can find clean bottled water in pretty much all the places in the country this also contributes to a lot of single-use plastic. The best option is to refill your bottle when you are at the hotel you are staying at such as Turyaa Kalutara Hotel.

4

Umbrella or rain jacket

Sri Lanka is a tropical country but the weather can be unpredictable during certain months and it is best to carry a small umbrella or a raincoat with you in your backpack. There are many locations on the island you can get an umbrella from in case you do forget but it is best to take your own rain jacket if possible.

5

Sarong and or coverup

Things to do in Kalutara, Kandy, Anuradhapura, and Dambulla all include visiting temples and historical places to which you need to dress conservatively. So if you take a sarong or a coverup with you you can throw it over before you enter the places that have rules for dress-code.

6

Mosquitto repellent and sunscreen

This little island which has sun through most months of the year can get rather warm so it is important to have sunscreen with you especially if you have plans to be sunbathing or hiking. mosquito repellent is equally important especially if you are going to spend time in places like Knuckles and other mountain ranges.

7

Slippers

You do not need to wear covered shoes when visiting most of the places in Sri Lanka but you need to remove your shoes when you visit temples, the Dalada Maligawa, and even some museums so having a pair of slippers in your backpack will avoid the hassle of having to lace up your shoes every time you finish a tour.

8

Shoes and socks

If you are planning to spend a lot of time outdoors or go on safaris to explore the national parks on the island it is best to have a pair of outdoor shoes and several pairs of socks with you. Climbing mountains and exploring nature are definitely easier done in shoes than in slippers.

9

Bathing suit and beach towel

Visiting a tropical island such as Sri Lanka without enjoying the sunny beaches and the sparkling pools would almost be like a crime so make sure you pack several bathing suits and a beach towel with you.
