The Top 5 Best Alternative Social Media Apps: An Alt-Tech Guide

As our technocratic overlords silence our opinions, invade our privacy, and snuff out our natural right to free speech, hordes of liberty-minded individuals have recently flocked to alternative social media apps in search of an honest platform. And, once you start looking, you’ll find no shortage of alt-tech options. There are a lot to choose from; but, here are some of our faves:

2

Parler

Parler

Without question, Parler has experienced the most success in recent months as people wriggle to escape the oppressive, iron grips of Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey. In fact, for several days in a row this month, the Google Play Store listed Parler as the #1 downloaded app. Understandably, the sudden influx of new users has overburdened the system and Parler’s developers have been forced to address a number of glitches. But, if you’re looking for a free speech outlet, Parler will do…until Google bans it for failure to properly muzzle its users.Website

Gab

Gab

Gab represents the most maligned alternative social media app on Earth. No alt-tech company has experienced more run-ins with The Powers That Be than Gab. The Google Play Store banned it. Visa blacklisted it. And, just about every mainstream media outlet has demonized it. Why, you ask? Well, Gab endured all of this because it allows its users to say what they want. Are there racist, anti-Semitic, misogynistic, homophobes on Gab? You betcha! And, that’s how you know you’re not being treated as a child by pasty, paternalistic nerds.

4

Rumble

In the time it took me to write this sentence, YouTube has demonetized and permanently banned 761 user accounts for wrongthink. Okay, I made that number up; but, it does happen every day, multiple times per day. And, that’s where Rumble comes in. It’s basically YouTube without all of the things that make YouTube annoying and oppressive. Post what you want. Watch what you want. And, block whatever you dislike. Amazing, isn’t it? It’s almost like we’re all adults, here!

5

Mewe

Mewe

Mewe serves as the world’s alternative to Facebook. It looks similar, feels similar, and behaves similar. But, you don’t have to worry whether your particularly sarcastic meme is going to offend the censors in Silicon Valley. Invite your friends, join a group, and post whatever conspiracy theory you treasure most…with impunity. Remember how free the internet was in the 1990’s? Yeah, it’s like that. And, it’s a breath of fresh air.

Simply Local

Simply Local

As an up-and-comer on the alt-tech scene, Simply Local delivers a unique user experience that puts individuals in contact with those who can actually have an impact in their lives — their Neighbors. A highly localized social media app, Simply Local remains totally “hands-off” when it comes to policing its users but let’s the community self manage it’s own decentralized networks. And, the majority find this approach to be quite refreshing in an age where techie plutocrats consider themselves the arbiters of truth and censor everything they simply don’t like.Simply Local
