Beach Activities – Let Your Hair Down and Don on the Flip Flops

Holidays can take you in diverse directions; a beach holiday is sought by the young as much as they are sought by those who are not so young. Families wanting time together and those who yearn to indulge in the sun, sand and sea all find their way to beachfronts for an action-packed holiday that is complemented by lazing under coconut palm groves.

1

Experience the Natural Setting

The tropics are a great place for a holiday; life is carefree and the bright sun rays seem to be the answer for all your holidaying needs. Put on sun block and build sand castles with the kids, dash on to the waves for an invigorating swim or stroll around picking up sea shells and admiring the changes to the sea waves. If you dream of a golden tan, put on some tanning oil and nap away or flip through the pages of a book while sipping a long cool drink to ease of the heat.

2

"Hot or Cold" or "Truth or Dare"

For a family or a group of friends, the beach is a unique and adventurous place to play a round of Treasure Hunt. You can hide things in the sand, under trees or even in your picnic basket. Relate your clues to the environment to make it educational for the kids. Since beaches bring out the dare devil in people, consider starting a game of Truth or Dare and getting everyone to run around in the sun and occasionally ride the waves.

3

Continue the Workout

Sri Lankan cuisine is exquisite and flavourful; one may find it a tad bit spicy, but overall the local gourmet is full of vegetables, fish, coconut gravy, condiments and herbs. The hotels in Sri Lanka are known to serve delectable local dishes and international buffets. If you start craving for more and have that nagging feeling of going on a binge, you are probably not alone and you need not worry about gaining weight. Working out at the beach is far more strenuous and demanding than doing it on flat ground. With the help of an instructor at your hotel, you would be able to lose plenty of calories, gain fitness and feel absolutely exhilarated.

4

Ride the Waves

Sri Lanka being an island is blessed with diverse ocean waves; some which are suitable for surfing, some for swimming and whale watching and others which are suitable for jet skiing and snorkelling. Depending on where you are located and the season, try one of these whilst on your holiday, the release of adrenaline and endorphins will make you get a new lease of life.

5

Tug o' war

Borrow a long and thick rope from Amagi Hotels or your chosen coastal abode and get all those on the beach to join you in a game of Tug o War. Even those who are not keen to tug at the rope need to be roped in as a part of the audience. The crowd should be split into two groups with each group tugging at the opposite ends. The aim is to test the might of the two sides and to have fun sinking your feet deep into the sand.
