Private Registration Plates

Fun Car Games for Family Road Trips

It won’t be long before we can get back out on the road with the family to enjoy a night or two away. The thing is, whether it’s a luxury caravan park, a rural campsite or maybe even a charming B&B once they’ve reopened, a car journey is required before you can switch off and chill out. In order to keep the kids entertained, we’ve rustled up some great car games for them to enjoy.

Number Plate Bingo

We sell private registration plates that add an extra level of personalisation and luxury to your car, so let’s start off with a car game that’s all about registration numbers!
Number Plate Bingo requires a pencil and pad for each child playing, so make sure to pack some before leaving the house. Each player writes down an eight-letter word, such as “champion”, “engineer”, “tropical” or any other that everyone agrees is a real word.
Next, the players have to keep their eyes open for passing number plates and cross off any letters that are contained within their individual words. The first to cross off the whole word is the winner and you can have multiple rounds just like in real bingo. To make the game last longer, you can use longer words, full sentences or even the entire alphabet (that’ll keep them busy for a while).

Memory Tester

As well as being great fun, car games can also help kids to improve their focus and memory. This game in particular requires a lot of concentration, as the first person will start off by saying something like “I’m going camping and I’ve packed a sleeping bag”. The next person then repeats the sentence and adds another item, such as “I’m going camping and I’ve packed a sleeping bag and a spare pair of pants”.
Keep going until someone either forgets an item, gets it wrong or lists them in the incorrect order. They then leave the round and it continues until only one player is victorious!

Twenty Questions

An absolute classic that’s loved by adults but also suitable for children, Twenty Questions involves one person choosing a topic and then telling the others the category, which can be a person, a place or a thing. For instance, they could choose Katy Perry, London or a random object like a bird bath, which the others then have to guess by asking up to twenty yes/no questions (Is the person an actor? Is the place in the UK? Do you find this thing in a kitchen?)
Sometimes the guessers might be able to work out the answer after a handful of questions, whereas on other occasions they may not get it at all! It’s up to you how difficult you make the game and it really is a great way to fill a long car journey.

The Name Game

This is a super simple game that’s perfect for kids of all ages. You start off by choosing a category, let’s say animals, and the first person names one, which could be gerbil. The next person then names an animal that starts with the last letter of the previous one, so in this case it would have to begin with L, such as llama or lemming.
The only rule is that you can’t repeat an animal that’s already been named. If you do, you’re out of the game for that round. The last person remaining is the winner and gets to choose the category for the next round, which might be songs, people’s names, movies and TV shows, maybe even items relating to cars and road trips.

I Spy

Surely everyone knows this car game, as it’s been a popular choice for generations. One person chooses an object that they can see and says “I spy with my little eye something beginning with” and then its first letter. The others then have to guess what it is.
The only rule is that it has to be something that the players can see too if they look hard enough, so if you spot a hedgehog for half a second whilst passing a bush that doesn’t really count.
