21st Century Learner and Learning

Here are some of videos that are effective for showing educators effective practices of the 21st century learner/learning. They are ranked from most effective to least effective.

Did You Know?

This video, although created I 2008, does a great job at sparking conversation about where the world is headed in terms of technology. Many of the other videos try to do this same thing but I found this one most memorable.

Teaching the 21st Century Learner

This is a video about the need to change how teachers teach to meet the needs and expectations of 21st century learners. Not too long and gets the point across.

Rethinking Learning: The 21st Century Learner | MacArthur Foundation

This video states that children of the 21st century need to "embrace change." The video talks a lot about teaching students to create and produce their own work through technology.

Engage Me!

Students from Robin Hood primary school, Birmingham, worked with a film crew from the National College for School Leadership to express their desire to use their favorite technology to learn new information at school. This is a nice way to get the attention of teachers because it is actual students in the video.

21st Century Literacy

This would be a great video to introduce students or teachers to what 21st century literacy is.

A Vision of Students Today

A video summarizing some of the most important characteristics of students today - how they learn, what they need to learn, their goals, hopes, dreams, what their lives will be like, and what kinds of changes they will experience in their lifetime. Created by Michael Wesch in collaboration with 200 students at Kansas State University.

A Vision of K-12 Students Today

Although I like the message of this video it is very similar to the ones I have already ranked. This project was created to inspire teachers to use technology in engaging ways to help students develop higher level thinking skills.

Pay Attention - Final Final Cut

This TeacherTube video also has the same message as the other videos but would not engage the viewer as much as the ones I have ranked before it. A lot of reading.

21st Century Skills: What Do We Do?

This video is very busy and the music is some what distracting. The description below is the one that was given by the author of the video.

In a world changing faster than the technology that fuels it, education too must change. We know our students need skills to be competitive in the 21st century, but what do we do to get them there. Watch.

21st Century Learning Matters

This video was created by the Colorado Council in conjuction with the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources. This video in my opinion would be a great video to give as a resource but not as a conversation starter. It is very lengthy.
