My rankings of ten videos about 21st century learning
This video is short and to the point. It focuses on the change in the way we learn and communicate in the 21st century. The major difference will be instead of one way print communication, (i.e. a newspaper) future communication will be live and two way . This is a good short summary of the changes in 21st century learning.
This video begins with results from a survey of over 400 employers. Accrording to the survey American workers are not prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. They are still receiving education and training that was more appropriate during the industrial age. Excellent video that uses an effective combination of text and audio.
This video was produced by the Colorado Council on 21st Century Learning, Learning Matters. It includes interviews with several people who have stakes in 21st century learning. It focuses on comparing the differences with traditional learning how it will change in the 21st century. I like the emphasis on skills needed in the work force. This video is not as flashy as the others but it gets the message across. It also focused on Colorado.
A short video summarizing some of the most important characteristics of students today such as how they learn and what they hope for. It is focused on college students and uses text written on paper without audio.
This video compares American workers to workers around the world. It includes a lot of shocking statistics about changes digital communication and globalization have brought in the past 20 years. It also includes several predictions such as the size and capabilities of computers 20 years from now. Interestingly, the producers offer no answers- instead they simply state facts and dilemmas we will face in the future.
This video focuses on younger children and includes scenes of the kids holding up signs with facts about the digital world they live in. Creativity, challenging and engaging are common words mentioned in this video that were also common in the other nine videos.
This video is about how teachers can reach out to students in the 21st century. Unlike most of the other videos it is focused more on the teacher and not the student.
This video, like most of the others, includes lots of screen shots. However, unlike the other videos it excludes a lot of text. The video advises teacher to meet their students in their learning space by using the technology they love such IPads and cell phones.
The Teacher Tube video focuses on what teachers can do to reach out to 21st century learners. It encourages teachers to have their students "create" and not just memorize.
This video seeks to motivate teachers to use technology to hep students achieve greater critical thinking skills. It also motivates administrators to give teachers the technology they will need in the 21st century.
