Five Activities You Cannot Miss in Ella – Awesome Attractions in Sri Lanka

Ella – a charming village nestled amid misty mountains in Sri Lanka. It is an absolute must to visit this picturesque village if ever you find yourself in the central highlands of this country. Here are five activities you cannot miss in Ella.

1

Ride the Train from Kandy to Ella

Yes, a train ride! – just not your typical everyday train ride with mundane views, but a scenic journey that will thrill you to your heart's core. The beautiful train splashed in blue passes through picturesque surroundings that exude a magical ambience – the enchanting woodlands and the lush green plantations will titillate your senses. You can probably start your trip to Ella from this train ride, which starts from Kandy, a city with an opulent cultural heritage. The most striking part of the train journey is when you pass between the villages of Nanu Oya and Ella, during which you will pass the thick forest of Horton Plains National Park.

2

Climb Lipton's Seat

Lipton's Seat is a wonderful place to visit during your stay in Ella. It is located within a 57-minute driving distance from Bandarawela Hotel via Nayabadda Mountain Road. This is a great vantage point from which you could gaze at the stunning greenery of all the tea plantations which surround it – in fact, this is exactly where Sir Thomas Lipton used to seat himself in order to admire his empire of tea plantations; hence its name. Lipton's Seat can get quite foggy and cloudy, which will limit your views – so make sure that you check the weather forecast before you climb up here.

3

Climb Little Adam's Peak

Little Adam's Peak is a splendid location that you'd be quite glad to visit. It has gained its name due to its resemblance to the famous Adam's Peak in Sri Lanka. It is considered a great place at which you could view a stunning sunrise. Located in the fetching town of Ella, Little Adam's Peak is often confused with Adam's Peak, which offers a more difficult hike for tourists. If you're wondering how to get to Little Adam's Peak, the trailhead starts right next to Ella Flower Garden Resort, so you should be able to easily find the path leading to this small mountain.

4

Hike to the top of Ella Rock

Now, this is a bit of a long walk compared to the one required to reach the summit of Little Adam's Peak. You will be able to find the trail on your own – just don't be deterred by some of the locals you'd come across, which offers guiding services for absurd amounts. Ella Rock is considered to be one of the best
places to visit in Bandarawela – the pleasing vistas at the top are definitely worth the climb!

Take Photos at the Nine Arches Bridgee

Nin Arches bridge is the picture you immediately see when you google Ella. It is an iconic train viaduct that was built hundreds of years ago using only cement and bricks. This bridge is set in an idyllic backdrop of thick shrubbery.
