Microsoft is releasing a beta version of their Xbox Cloud gaming service to Apple devices. The service is being rolled out in 22 selected countries for now and is limited to the invitation system by Microsoft. Also, the xCloud gaming service will be available only to the subscribers of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service.
“Our plan is to iterate quickly and open up to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in the coming months, so more people have the opportunity to play Xbox in all-new ways,” said Catherine Gluckstein, Vice President & Head of Product, Project xCloud. The games can be accessed viaxCloud on Chrome, Edge browsers, and the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad.
Interestingly enough, Apple has rejected both Google and Microsoft for directly listing their game service from the App store. Apple gave the cause as the violation of App Store policies. Moreover, it suggested both Google and Microsoft to release individual games on App Store and pay individual App Store commission.
The xCloudgaming service requires a subscription to play unlimited games listed on the service without paying a premium for individual games. Apart from this, the users must have a fast and stable internet connection to be able to play. “Those who receive an invite just need a compatible Bluetooth or USB-connected controller or can use custom touch controls for more than 50 games to start playing and testing,” Gluckstein said in the post.
The online habits of teens and Gen Z are opening new doors and reshaping the media industry in many ways. While traditional entertainment is still relevant, the new web-based contents like social media, games, web series, etc., are becoming more and more popular.
The studies suggest that Gen Z members prefer to spend more time on video games and music while using social media. Apart from this, the recent pandemic has also pushed online media consumption as well as use of social media and gaming.
The consulting giant Deloitte has explained the shifts in its latest 15th annual Digital Media Trends Survey, which studies generations from Gen Z to the newborn in their consumption habits ofmovies, TV, videogames, social media, and music. The study has been tracking Millennials since they were teens, and some Gen Z members weren’t even born.
“They’ve grown up in a fully digital world,” said Deloitte vice chairman Kevin Westcott, who oversees the survey. “They grew up in a digital realm, parents had tablets and smartphones. They had the instant engagement you get out of games. They grew up playing spelling and math games and Oregon Trail. They grew up with a tablet in their hands.”
Gaming has become more and more popular in recent times than any other forms of entertainmanet. Moreover, the availability of mobile games and socially connected games have made the experience even more entertaining. Social media is shaping up to become a gateway to music, videos and gaming.
Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson has collaborated with MediaTek to achieve speeds of 5.1 Gbps jointly. For the 5G Dual Connectivity, the companies aggregated 800MHz of high-band spectrum and 60MHz of mid-band, which was sent over the air to a device equipped with the MediaTek M80 5G modem while Ericsson provided its Radio System hardware and 5G Core. The speeds were achieved on a single device using mmWave in a 5G Standalone (5G SA) mode combined with the mid-band spectrum.
The demo showed that the mmWave could be utilized effectively in the new 5G SA architecture as the connection utilizes both mmWave and mid-band spectrum, which in turn enables higher uplink and downlink data rates for 5G SA than currently deployed. This technology will further allow the way for new use cases for mobile broadband and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), such as gaming and immersive media.
“This 5G technology breakthrough with our partner MediaTek is the direct result of our efforts to meet the evolving connectivity needs of our customers worldwide. We believe that New Radio Dual Connectivity will be a very appealing option to many customers globally as part of their 5G Standalone deployment strategies. It will enable millimeter wave in the multi-layer network with speeds of over 5Gbps,” said HannesEkstrom, Head of Product Line 5G RAN, Ericsson.
While JS Pan, General Manager of Wireless Communication System and Partnership, MediaTek, said,“NR Dual Connectivity is one of the latest 5G technology developments that will directly contribute to next-generation 5G services, growing capacity, performance and enabling innovative new use-cases across business, industry and consumer ecosystems.”
COVID-19 had made last year a challenging one for everyone. From educational institutions through to the broader business networks, many industries have been brought to a halt due to the impacts of the pandemic. While some of the large companies among us have managed to come out of the worst of it relatively unscathed, the same certainly cannot be said for some of our smaller businesses.
Reassessing and repurposing their services to fit in with an ever-changing climate has been difficult for all. However, it is not all doom and gloom; overcoming such an unprecedented and unexpected challenge has allowed businesses to reevaluate their methods and what they offer their target audiences. Not to mention whether they have the means to provide alternative things as well.
While this may well be the case for your business or someone affiliated with it, the coming weeks and months are undoubtedly a time of reflection. As we make our way toward the end of the tunnel, taking some time to plan where you want your business to head in the future is an ideal thing to do and will pay off in the future.
