Globalization Of Education to Ameliorate Deployment

Globalisation of Education is integration and application of similar education system and knowledge through out the world across the borders, improving the quality & deployment of education worldwide. Globalization is a complex phenomenon that has had far-reaching effects. People can only contribute and benefit from globalization if they are endowed with knowledge, skills, and values and with the capabilities and rights needed to pursue their basic likelihoods.

Globalization is a relatively recent concept in scholarly research, becoming popular in public, academic, and educational discourse only in the 1980s. However, many leading scholars of globalization have argued that the major causes or shapers of globalization, particularly the movement and mixing of elements beyond a local or national level, is at least many centuries old.Globalization and education are highly interrelated from a historical view. At the most basic level, historical processes that many identify as essential precursors to political-economic globalization during the late modern colonial and imperialist eras influenced the development and rise of mass education.

The typical phenomena and characteristics associated with globalization include growth of global networking for instance, internet, world wide e-communication, and transportation. Global transfer and interflow in technological, economic, social, political, cultural, and learning areas, international alliances and competitions, international collaboration and exchange, global village and multi-cultural integration are other major aspects. It is the increasing inter -dependence of the world’s inhabitants on an economic technological, cultural, as well as political level. Effective education systems, are the foundation of opportunities to lead a decent life. Ensuring that all children have adequate access to education is essential public sector function for all countries.

Importance of Education in the Globalized world

While the basic aims of education are to enable children develop their potentials, define and pursue a meaningful purpose; globalization has put an extra pressure on the education system to create ‘winners’ who are ready to battle in the race for the survival of the fittest.

Impact of globalization on the education system of a country is intrinsic. It brings education to the front lines and in the prevailing discourse, is expected to be the major tool for incorporation into the ‘knowledge society’ and the technological economy. Educational access with quality is very much part, of the globalization discourse where quality is defined as ‘an educational content that enables students to obtain the knowledge they require for the construction of an equitable social and economic world’.

Education in Developed and Developing Nations

While education deficits are obviously greater in developing countries, this is a major issue in developed countries as well. In many industrialized countries there is a persistent problem of illiteracy and low skills, which is an important source of social exclusion.

Unequal access to education also fuels growing wage inequality and worsen the income distribution. The uneducated and unskilled in industrialized countries face severe disadvantage in an increasingly competitive global market. Education is a core element of society, and the foundation of democratic choice.

The large differences in opportunities in education between countries are one of the basic causes of global inequality.

Globalization and Indian Schooling:

Globalization encourages explorations, experimentation to push the frontiers of the potential of information technologies and communications for more effective learning. Adopting a holistic approach to the problems, globalization enables the ability of learners to access, assess, adopt and apply knowledge to think independently and exercise appropriate judgment and to collaborate with others to make sense of new situations. Breaking the boundaries of space and time, it uses advanced information and communications technologies, new systems of knowledge in teaching and learning that aid both the teacher as well as the student.

The policies and legislations by the Indian government reflect its focus to meet the targets. The passing of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act in the year 2009 has been the landmark effort by the government to implement its commitments into action. Every child between the age of six and fourteen years now has the fundamental right to education. The Twelfth Five Year Plan by the Government of India (2012-17) clearly links the quality of education to the available of physical infrastructure, textual materials, classroom processes, academic support to the teachers, assessment procedures and community involvement.

It further goes on to focus on providing adequate inputs and infrastructure for the proper functioning of schools and treats improving school inputs as just the starting point in improving educational quality. It commits to taking a more comprehensive view for building a strong systemic focus on teacher capacity, improving school leadership/management, strengthening academic support system, better community and parents’ participation, measuring and improving learning outcomes in a continuous manner. Focus is being laid on provision for having child-friendly schools and systems in teaching learning processes as well as in improved water, sanitation, hygiene and mid-day meal practice. These lays down emphasis on the quality of education in the context of overall development.

Impact of Globalized Education On Employment

India’s trade with the external world, which had been stagnant at a low level for a long time, showed rapid growth in recent decades. It needs to be said that most workers in India engage in more than one type of employment in any given period.

Globalization is clearly contributing to increased integration of labor markets and closing the wage gap between workers in advanced and developing economies, especially through the spread of technology. It also plays a part in increasing domestic income inequality.

In the case of highly developed economies, globalization would result in more opportunities for the acceleration of capital outflows and a reduction in the share of manufacturing activities as production shifts to off-shore locations in search of lower costs and better access to overseas markets. This is what is termed as “deindustrialization” where cheap imports from low wage economies flood highly developed economies’ markets thus, destroying unskilled jobs.

For developing countries, globalization would result in the decline of inefficient heavy or capital intensive industries that are heavily protected by high tariffs and an increase in labor-intensive and export-oriented industries reflecting the country’s comparative advantage.

Impact Of Globalized Education Of Economy

India is one of the countries that succeeded significantly after the initiation and implementation of Globalization. The growth of foreign investment in the field of corporate, retail and the scientific sector is enormous in the country. It also had a tremendous impact on the social, monetary, cultural and political area. In recent years, Globalization has increased due to improvements in transportation and information technology.

With the improved global synergies comes the growth of global trade, doctrines and culture. Indian society is changing drastically after urbanisation and Globalization. Economic policies have had a direct influence in forming the basic framework of the economy. Economic policies established and administered by the government also performed an essential role in planning levels of savings, employment, income and investments in society

Greater Number of Jobs: The advent of foreign companies and growth in economy has led to job creation. However, these jobs are concentrated more in the services sector and this has led to rapid growth of service sector creating problems for individuals with low level of education. The last decade came to be known for its jobless growth as job creation was not proportionate to the level of economic growth.

More choice to consumers: Globalization has led to a boom in consumer products market. We have a range of choice in selecting goods unlike the times where there were just a couple of manufacturers.

Higher Disposable Incomes: People in cities working in high paying jobs have greater income to spend on lifestyle goods. There has been an increase in the demand of products like meat, egg, pulses, organic food as a result. It has also led to protein inflation.

Conclusion

We Indians & our Institutes should decide about the nature and extent of globalization that can be constructively introduced in their socio-economic and educational systems. Though it is difficult to hold on to our core standards and not become a complete replica of international community , it is necessary that while doing so, the paramountcy of national interests should be kept in view. This is more so in the field of education, which is intimately concerned with the development of human capital. As the culture in a country & other sectors like education and development goes hand in hand. Ultimately, any hasty involvement in the global educational market can end up in harming the vital interests of students, and particularly of poor and downtrodden for generations to come. Proper regulatory mechanisms to be established to ensure that the universities, do not end up exploiting students.

The education system must ensure that students gain not just depth of knowledge in these subjects but a holistic perception and skills that will equip them to face the real world. As the insights of practical world is quite important to excel in the given fields. At every stage, there must be opportunities to expand their boundaries, platforms for collaboration and learning and recognition for those who strive to excel.

It is about always trying to push the bar a little more, constantly innovating and never standing still. If the educational institutions believe in a value based education system, then their students will excel in all walks of life. At schools and colleges that believe in educational excellence, student enthusiasm and feedback is an important driver of change and evaluation. They create a vibrant, student community that continually innovative and excels in all spheres from academics to arts and sports. Globalization is a never ending process and Developing countries like India should utilise this properly to improve their national standard through their education system. Globalisation is a key to change the future & build it constructively towards implementation of better education standards throughout.

Vision: To be a premier institute where engineering education and research converge to produce engineers as responsible citizens.
