It was once believed that bacteria play a minimal role in microbial communities of hypersaline brines but this belief was challenged with the discovery of Salinibacter ruber.

I present to you one of the leading bacterium responsible for ecological and evolutionary studies of bacterial adaptation to hypersaline habitats and also my adopted bacterium, the Salinibacter ruber!

This red/orange pigmented gram-negative bacterium is rod-shaped and are extreme halophiles!
