Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, comprises of several islands and a huge chunk of the mainland. Abu Dhabi, over the past couple of years, is steadily gaining a name as a tourist hotspot. Here are some facts for you to scroll through to learn more about the Emirate of Abu Dhabi!

City of the future

A sustainable city running completely on renewable energy may sound far-reaching to some, but not so much for those in Abu Dhabi! This city is said to be completed by 2025 and will house around 40,000 people. The way these works is by making use of the resources at hand such as several solar panels, curved and normal ones, are used for higher energy output. The solar panels in the city produce 17000-megawatt hours per year, covering over 22 hectares of land. This is hailed as the 'City of the Future' and gives a lot of hope to renewable resources!

Pearl Trade

Before the United Arab Emirates discovered oil, pearl trading was the key industry that contributed greatly to the economy of Abu Dhabi. Divers used to dive without any breathing equipment in the Persian Gulf, looking for pearls. By the mid-1930s, the industry spiraled to an all-time low and stopped functioning due to the process of synthesizing artificial pearls.

Abu Dhabi has been ranked the safest city, both in 2018 and 2019. Taking into account the safety of citizens, residents and tourists – Abu Dhabi outs in great efforts into making sure an Emirate is a safe place for everyone.

Architecture and Design

Did you know when the proposal of revamping the city into a world-class one was first put forward, Sheikh Zayed headed the project and he worked closely with Katsuhiko Takahashi, a Japanese architect. The city was initially built to house over 40,000 people in 1967 but now holds over 120,000 citizens and a number of hotels. Extravagant Cars

If you're a car fanatic, Abu Dhabi will leave you mesmerized. In fact, the police force in the Emirate has been provided with luxury sports cars to cruise around and tackle high-speed chases by the government. The cars range from Lamborghini, Ferrari, Rolls Royce and so much more!

Ferrari World

Another one for the automobile enthusiasts! This theme park was opened in 2010 and was devoted entirely to the brand Ferrari. There are a plethora of rides to enjoy here, and you can even try out 'Formula Rossa', hailed as the world's fastest roller coaster spanning over 2.2 kilometres and can reach a speed of over 240 kmph!

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

This grand mosque was built by Sheikh Zayed Sultan Al Nahyan and can house over 41,000 worshippers. In addition to this, it houses the world's largest carpet and seven exquisite chandeliers, from which one used to hold a world record. The carpet is said to weigh around 35 tonnes and spread over 60,000 square feet.
