Zambia sits in between several countries in the continent of Africa. Possessing an abundance of wildlife, city life and fun – Zambia is a great country to visit and stop by for the holiday goers. Here's some more information!

History

Learning about a country's history is always interesting, especially if it has a long history. Archaeologists have found evidence of human habitation that dates back to almost 3 million years, in Zambia! It's said that for hundreds and thousands of years, the hunter-gatherer Khoisan roamed there until the Bantu Tribes apparently began to move in. Zambia was known as the 'Northern Rhodesia' until 1923.

The biggest lake

Zambia is home to the biggest man-made lake, called Lake Kariba. Lake Kariba is situated between Zambia and Zimbabwe and stretches a whopping 140 miles! The lake carries over 200 billion tonnes of water, which has increased seismic activity in the area. This lake was created between 1958 and 1963.

National Language

The official national language of Zambia is English! Apart from English, which is widely used for business and in tourism, there are over 70 languages spoken in Zambia which originate from the Bantu language family. It is best if you learn a few greeting before heading that way!

Lusaka is the capital of Nambia and is also one of the fastest developing cities in all of Africa. There's plenty to do in Lusaka such as sightseeing, visiting the Botanical Gardens, walking around, exploring and of course, eating!

Huge mushrooms

In Zambia, termite houses sometimes grow to become the size of actual houses! After the rains in November, termites sprout their temporary wings and fly all over the place. The world's largest edible mushroom, known as Termitomyces titanicus is a source of food for Zambians.

Plenty of waterfalls

If you're someone who is in awe of waterfalls and the nature that surrounds the falls, you're unlikely to be disappointed in Nambia as there are numerous waterfalls to explore. Victoria Falls is the world's largest sheet of water and others include, Kundalila Falls, Kalambo Falls, Nyonge Falls and much more!

Wildlife exploration

For nature and Safari enthusiasts, you'll be glad to find out that the Kafue National Park is the size of the country of Wales! This is Zambia's largest protected wildlife reserve and is exceptionally diverse. The reserve has interesting geology and is home to over 55 different animal species from cheetahs, hippos, lions, crocodiles, African wild dogs and much more!

In October, the world's largest migration of giant fruit bats can be witnessed at Kasanka National Park. You'll find the experience either exhilarating or terrifying, there is no in-between.
