Places to visit in Pasikuda – Your renewed Sri Lankan itinerary

Sitting on the eastern coast, Pasikuda is a small resort town in Sri Lanka. The town is filled with things to do and see, and there are plenty of nearby attractions for you to enjoy.

1

About Pasikuda

A gem found within the Batticaloa district, Pasikuda is a vibrant town that calls out to tourists. Located within walking distance is Kalkudha, an added bonus for those visiting Pasikuda. The natural beauty of Pasikuda is the reason for its fame. Foreigners, as well locals, are drawn to its irresistible natural beauty. In 2004, the town was the subject of a catastrophe, a tsunami. The tourism industry took the biggest hit, but since then, the town has been coming out of the gloominess caused by the unexpected disaster. Pasikuda hotels are high in demand by those who love the town. As a result, the likes of Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa have become the most sought after. Pasikuda offers a lot to a savvy traveller. Even if this is your first time, if you do a bit of research, you'll know just what to do.

2

Pasikuda Beach

This is the highlight of the town. Located south of Kalkudah beach, Pasikuda beach is one that's visited throughout the year. It's mostly crowded by tourists soaking up the sun rays. The beach is fringed with hotels, cafes and restaurants. The shallow waters found around here are the main draw for tourists. If you decide to visit the beach, it'll be your chance to witness the vibrant marine life of Sri Lanka; a range of fish and coral reef reside here, making it an enchanting piece of nature. The best time for a visit would be from May to September.

3

Kalkudah Beach

Though perhaps less crowded than Pasikuda Beach, Kalkudah Beach is equally appealing to tourists. The soft sands of the beach are inviting to those who want to lounge and enjoy the warm sun. Located 35 kilometres away from Batticaloa, Kalkudah Beach is another attraction that should be visited on your tour to Pasikuda. You won't see as many restaurants and hotels here, but the beach is beautifully dotted with palm trees, and the turquoise waters of the ocean make it a perfect tropical holiday poster. Fishermen wading out into the sea in search of their daily catch is a common sight and a telltale of the local life dependent on fishing. For those who don't like crowds, Kalkudah Beach is the perfect place to be.

4

The Lady Manning Bridge

Another attraction located nearby, the Lady Manning Bridge is the oldest bridge of its kind in Sri Lanka. The singing fish is the most popular phenomenon here, and it attracts crowds from all over the country.

5

Lagoons

Within the Batticaloa district are three lagoons, and they are all worth visiting. Vakari Lagoon, Batticaloa Lagoon and Valachchenai Lagoon are the grounds of a diverse ecosystem. Its unique setting attracts a variety of birds, both endemic and migratory. A visit to these lagoons is a must if you are fascinated by wildlife.

6

Batticaloa Beach

If you are a watersports enthusiast who loves snorkelling and diving, Batticaloa Beach is the place for you to be. The beach is made attractive to divers by its amazing marine life comprised of corals and fish.

7

Islands

This part of Sri Lanka is known for many things, and among them are Bone Island, Puliayantheevu and Buffalo Island; all three equally immersed in natural beauty.

8

Best time to visit

The weather remains somewhat consistent throughout the year; it's sunny and warm. However, for the best possible experience, you should visit during the period from March to October.
