BEST LAPTOPS OF 2021!

Here are our top-rated picks for all types of users, including creatives and gamers, and even our favorite cheap laptops and budget-friendly options.
The Dell XPS 13 is a perennial favorite for its size, weight and performance and just overall good looks. In 2020, Dell made the laptop even smaller, while making the laptop screen larger and increasing performance for both CPU and graphics-intensive tasks.

XBOX SERIES X: Game Pass is the secret weapon!

Just the name itself, Xbox Series X -- following Xbox One X and Xbox One -- points towards steady progress as opposed to a grand leap into uncharted territory. But the $500 (£450, AU$749) Xbox Series X is also a different beast at launch, compared to its 2013 predecessor, the Xbox One. There's no more Kinect camera and no HDMI-in port right next to the usual HDMI-out port, back when the Xbox One wanted to be your cable box. Gone are gimmicks and extras (except for a semiproprietary slot for an expensive Seagate expansion drive). The one loss I'm lamenting is the optical audio jack, an Xbox One feature missing here. Yes, it's not for everyone, but AV people want what they want.

Samsung's Galaxy S21 is the no-brainer upgrade phone!

The Galaxy S21 lineup is now available. Before you buy one, the biggest takeaway you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, along with the Galaxy S21 Plus 5G and Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, is that Samsung cut the US price of each by $200 (the savings are less in other countries). Clearly this wasn't done out of generosity and Samsung's made trade-offs to hit that lower price on the Galaxy S21: The wall charger and headphones don't come in the box, the phone doesn't have a microSD card slot for expanded storage and it has 4GB of RAM less than the S20. Samsung also removed half of the pixels from the screen and replaced the Gorilla Glass from the back with polycarbonate, which is a nice way of saying plastic.

Review: iPhone 12 Pro Max deserves a spot in your pocket -- if you can get it to fit!

The iPhone 12 Pro Max ($1,099 at Amazon) follows in the footsteps of the 7 Plus and gets camera upgrades that none of the other iPhone 12 models have. At its core the iPhone 12 Pro Max, like all the phones in the iPhone 12 family (the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Mini), has a bunch of things going for it like a new flat-sided design reminiscent of the iPhone 5 ($45 at Back Market) and iPad Pro. It has support for 5G, an OLED screen with support for HDR, a ceramic shield covering, an A14 Bionic processor, support for MagSafe wireless charging and it can be submerged to a depth of 6 meters (just under 20 feet) for up to 30 minutes. If you want a deeper assessment of any of these features, take a look at my iPhone 12 and 12 Pro review.

First specs of Intel Xe-HPG gaming graphics cards

This is neither the first time nor the last time we will be talking about DG2, Intel’s first modern gaming GPU series now expected to debut later this year. It’s an important development in the GPU industry because the choice will no longer be limited to two brands.

So far Intel has told us that Xe-HPG will be gaming optimized and high-performance series. It will take advantage of the compute efficiency from the Xe-HPC series, graphics efficiency from the Xe-LP series, and scalability from Xe-HP. The last part of this official information is slowly becoming clearer.

According to the most recent leaks, Intel is planning at least two DG2 variants, one with 384 EU (Execution Units) and the other with 512 EU. A third variant has now appeared in an encoded message by @OneRaichu, who has leaked DG2 information before. Twitter users were quick to decode the message and reveal a list of potential DG2 specifications. From there we learn that there is also a third variant with 128 EUs.

PS5 review: Exclusive games power Sony's sky-high space-age console!

My PS4 almost made it. It was a launch-day PlayStation 4 from 2013, and it worked great right up until the last few months, like it knew it was about to get the Marie Kondo treatment and replaced by the new, much-advanced PS5. The seven-year-old system still played games fine, but the optical drive mechanism grew confused, giving off random beeps, as if it were trying to eject a ghost disc.
And it was right to be worried. The powerful new PlayStation 5 console towers over its predecessor, both physically and in its forward-looking graphics capabilities. Its AMD-powered GPU can process 10.28 teraflops versus 1.84 teraflops in the original PS4 (each TF represents about 1 trillion operations per second). Also, it's tall. Really tall. It stands 16 inches (40.6 cm) in its vertical position. Judging by the front of the box and Sony's promotional art, that's how the company intends for you to use it.
