This is a fantastic site for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts who will have the time of their lives exploring the actions beneath the waves. Pulau Payar Marine Park is located approximately 30 kilometres south of the mainland and you could take either a speedboat or catamaran to get here. Spread over two nautical miles, this marine park consists of four islands and the largest is known as Pulau Payar. Not one of these islands is inhabited and the Fisheries Department of Kedah has placed strict regulations to maintain and conserve the pristine and immaculate conditions of these islands.
Underwater World Langkawi is spread over an incredible six acres and is one of the best-known attractions of the island. Located within a 5-minute driving distance from Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa via Jalan Pantai Chenang, this is also the most-extensive aquarium in Malaysia. This massive white structure boasts housing over 200 different species; these include sharks, harbour seals, large rays, rockhopper penguins, and even the gigantic Amazonian Arapaima – the largest freshwater fish in the world. Langkawi Underwater World consists of three sections (Tropical Rainforest, Temperate, and Sub-Antarctic). Other highlights of this place include an Educational Resource Centre, a 3D theatre, and even a humongous walk-through tunnel of water, which houses a mélange of marine creatures.
Gunung Raya is hailed as the highest mountain in Langkawi. It towers from an incredible height of 881 metres and a hike up to its peak is considered one of the best things to do while you’re holidaying at one of the Langkawi resorts. During the hike, you will be able to spot countless wildlife in its dense foliage – keep your eyes peeled for flying foxes, squirrels, white-bellied eagles, macaque monkeys, great hornbills, and many more! If you’re driving up to the summit, it will only take you around 30 minutes. You’ll come across several lookout points along the way.
Along Jalan Ayer Hangat, one would come across a splendid animal sanctuary known as Langkawi National Park. Spread over a land space of five acres, it is a beautiful tropical garden, which is home to a number of exotic birds from 150 species. Keep your eyes open and cameras ready for eagles, canaries, toucans, hornbills, owls, and flamingos and you’ll surely snap a great photo to show your friends and family at home.
Popularly known as Dataran Lang, Langkawi Eagle Square is perhaps the best known human-made attractions on this island. The sculpture is a giant and majestic eagle poised to take flight and this sight is what greets visitors who arrive at the island via ferry. This reddish-brown eagle was built as Langkawi’s emblem.
