05 Important Ways to Stop the Spread of COVID-19 – Keeping to the New Normal

COVID-19 has affected everyone no matter where they are in the world. With vaccines being rolled out, there is cause to be cautiously optimistic; that said, you should still follow the guidelines to prevent its spread. Here is a reminder on some of these steps.

1

Washing Hands on a Regular Basis

One of the best ways of preventing the spread of not only COVID-19 but other communicable diseases would be to wash your hands regularly. Both cold and warm water are equally effective though you must use soap. The recommended time for washing hands is a minimum of 20 seconds; however, one should do so in a manner where all areas of the hands (front, back, in-between fingers, etc.) are washed properly. When heading out of home, ensure you have hand sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol which you can use any time after you have touched surface objects.

2

Wear a Mask When Going Outside

Another essential thing to do is to always wear a face mask when going out and about or meeting people. By wearing such a mask properly (it should cover your mouth and nose), you can help to prevent the spray of droplets from others landing in your mouth or being breathed in; this is a common way the virus can be directly passed from one to another. It also serves the purpose of keeping others safe as well in case you are sick or may unknowingly be a carrier of COVID-19.

3

Stay at a Hotel with Safety Measures

Most nations have a strict quarantine process in place for arriving travellers who can choose a hotel to stay at during this period. Ensure the property follows maximum health and sanitisation procedures which will help you stay safe and prevent any spread of the virus. A great example can be seen in Hong Kong, where it has designated quarantine hotels such as Dorsett Wanchai where one can spend the 21-day compulsory quarantine. A special 21 Nights Quarantine Package is also on offer at suchz a Wan Chai hotel in Hong Kong; guests have the added confidence of staying at a property that's certified through the "Anti-Epidemic Hygiene Measures Certification Scheme" of the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA).

4

Always Maintain Social Distancing

Since COVID-19 can be easily passed from person to person, it is vital that social distancing if followed; remember, wearing a mask alone is not enough and keeping a minimum distance of six feet from a person or people is also important. This reduces the chance of you coming into contact with droplets from another individual who may be a carrier of the virus. Social distancing should be maintained in all public settings including when using public transport.

5

Be Wary of High-Touch Surfaces

High-touch surfaces are those hard surfaces that people regularly use; keep in mind that COVID-19 can spread even from such surfaces to people. With this in mind, especially when out of home, always wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitiser after you have come into contact with such high touch surfaces; these can include switches, doorknobs, chairs or tables, faucets, toilets, sinks, etc. Consider carrying around sanitising wipes which you can disinfect such surfaces before use as well.
