Important Ways to Prevent the Spread of Infectious Diseases – Safeguard You and Others

Living with the COVID-19 pandemic has made us reevaluate our lives in certain aspects – and this includes how we live on a daily basis incorporating preventive measures and hygiene practices to which we didn't pay much attention before. Here are some ways to prevent the spread of diseases.

1

Wash Your Hands

Well, this is hygiene 101 but during this pandemic, it cannot be more highlighted – it doesn't matter if it becomes an obsession as your health depends upon it. Whenever you go out in the public, you unconsciously come into contact with certain surfaces that run the risk of carrying infectious virus droplets, such as the deadly coronavirus. But if you religiously practise hand washing or sanitising your hands when washing your hand isn't an option, you would have a lesser chance of contracting the virus. But it is important to know that washing hands alone isn't a solution to prevent the spread of an infectious disease.

2

Stay at Home if You Get the Signs

No, it isn't a sign from the universe; this is when you really feel that you don't feel well, especially if you've got a sore throat or a mild fever – these could be the telltale signs that you've contracted something infectious and as a responsible citizen, you should stay at home until you can get it confirmed that it isn't something you can pass on to others. No matter what other commitment you may have outside your home, you would run the risk of passing on the disease to your friends or a loved one if you carry a viral disease.

3

Travel Wisely

If you do have to travel under unavoidable circumstances such as on business, then you should take all the necessary precautions you could to avoid coming into direct contact with the virus. For instance, if you're travelling to Hongkong, you can make reservations at a hotel in Hong Kong with hygiene measures the likes of Dorsett Mongkok, instead of opting for the least expensive accommodation you can find on the internet. You may think that if you wash your hands regularly and wear a face mask, the virus wouldn't get through to you – but people tend to touch their eyes, noses, and mouths almost unconsciously and a missed moment would be more than enough for a virus to enter into your body.

4

Never Share Personal Belongings

You wouldn't mind sharing your glass of water with a friend or dining utensils – but these are some overlooked instances where a virus can enter into our body, unnoticed. You would think that your close friends and other well-known people are as careful as you (probably they are) but it wouldn't hurt to practise extreme precaution during a troubled time like this.

5

Develop Healthy Dining Habits

When there's a virus spreading faster than a bullet train across the globe, eating out may not be the best option for you. Try to prepare a simple, healthy meal out of fresh ingredients that you pick from the market – it's always better if you can cook your meals as the heat would kill a particularly gruesome virus on them. If you must have a takeaway, choose something that you could microwave.
