It has long been a struggle for many drivers to effectively parallel park quickly and easily. No one wants to be responsible for holding up traffic, or be seen taking seven attempts at the same parking effort. These tips are easy whether you drive a new or used car in Utah, it doesn’t matter, but you will feel much more confident in your abilities if you follow the steps exactly.
Look for a parking space that you think you would feel comfortable trying to park in. The bigger, the better.
This is the biggest trick to effectively getting the right distance back into your spot. This is the best way to judge the room to allow you to comfortably make the S turn backwards.
Before proceeding backwards, check your mirrors to ensure there are no dangers. Turn your indicator/blinker on and signal that you want to enter that space.
As you start reversing, look over your shoulder and turn the wheel hard to the right, this is the beginning of what will eventually be a full S turn.
Now you’re rear of the car is mostly in the spot, turn the wheel left to bring the front end in safely. Watch at all times for possible contact to the surrounding cars, or curb.
Now you’re fully backed in, put the car in drive and turn the wheel right to bring the front end in safely.
Hopefully now you’re safely parked in your space, if any of these steps went wrong, just gently correct them and try again. Utah driving can be a tough experience, but with these simple steps, parallel parking in your new or used car can now be a little easier than ever before.
