Sometimes you just meet someone and you know you are kindred spirits. MathyCathy is that person. She is a middle school mathematics teacher here at Hill Country MS and a fellow lover of pi ( true story: my car turned its odometer at 31415 miles and I almost stopped the car to take a pic and freeze that momentous occurrence in time).
One of the things that we've been doing for awhile, but I've yet to write about is using QR Codes to share student work. I made a series of posters that I often hang around the room when I facilitate workshops. It's fun for participants to get up and scan them at break time. Each poster features a quote about education or technology . Part of the quote or its author is missing and has been replaced with a QR code.
Hey, ya'll! Rachel Lynette's Multiplication Jenga Labels have had me in love with the Jenga format for practicing math skills for a while now, so last week I combined that love with my love of QR codes in a self-checking Jenga game about fractions.
I also have had the problem with the lighter (yellow, green, pink) codes not reading. Even printed them in black and white and still wouldn't read the light ones. We have several teaches with several qr readers and none of them would read the light ones.
I think I first came across the idea of using toy capsules from Rachel Lynette at Minds in Bloom, and thought it was super cute. She placed task cards, folded up, inside of the to capsules you find in toy vending machines at stores. So, I found some really nice ones at Ebay.
