Hidden gems to explore in Luang Prabang – It’s not always about the tourist hot spots!

The ancient capital city of Laos, Luang Prabang is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the country. But still, this old town is always peaceful and gives off a relaxed vibe to everyone who comes to visit it. Explore the hidden gems when you are there!

1

The weaving village

Weaving was a prominent career (especially for women) in ancient Laos. If you head to Ock Pop Tok weaving village during your days in Luang Prabang, you'll able to see how the present generations of those weaving families still engage in their traditional careers with a lot of passion. According to the locals, this tradition dates back to over 700 years, and the unique secrets of this art are still known by these few people only.

2

Nahm Dong Adventure Park

This is an adventure park built upon the eco-tourism trend. But yet, only a few know about this attraction in Luang Prabang that can take you back to Nature in style. It's in Ban Xiengmouak, located 10km away from the main city. Everything you need to make you closer to Nature once again, including waterfalls and vegetation is here waiting to welcome you! They also offer mini-adventures such as zip-lining and camping for its guests to enjoy.

3

Tad Thong Waterfall

This waterfall is located just 6km away from the city, but still- is less known among the tourist crowds. It's an amazing experience to hike through the jungles until you see the waterfall. But, since you will find no shops on the way, it will be always better if you start the hike having water bottles, snacks, and insect repellents ready!

4

Muang Ngoi

Muang Ngoi is a laid-back town located a little far away from the Luang Prabang city center but sure is worth a visit. This town helps you to forget all your troubles for a while since it's all about a vibe of tranquility that it spreads. Nam Ou River and the Tad Mok Waterfall are the nearby attractions, and they are worth a visit too! Also, do not forget to talk with the friendly locals and discover how their lifestyles are shaped.

5

Pha Tad Ke Botanical Gardens

Laos now has a list of Botanical Gardens, but the first-ever was Pha Tad Ke Botanical Gardens. All most all of the plants you see here are local ones, and this is why their names will sound odd to you most of the time. There's no proper road to come to this garden, thus you'll have to take a boat ride (15min) from Bat Wat That.
