Top 6 Beaches in Sri Lanka – A Insightful Guide

Being known for their signature beaches with idyllic looks and beautiful sceneries, there is not enough time in the world you could ever spend recurring at these beaches – they are just out of this world. Visiting the following beaches in Sri Lanka is an absolute must-do on your travels!

1

Wijaya Beach

As per most visitors coming down to Sri Lanka, Wijaya beach happens to be one of the best beaches to visit in Sri Lanka. It is a clean, white-sand beach shaded with beautiful palms leaning over its gentle waters. If you happen to catch a glimpse of an occasional turtle coming out for a breath- just know it's the charm of this spectacular beach stretch. The best part you say – it is the coral reef in front of the beach that stretches on to form a natural swimming pool! If that doesn't make you want to go running, we don't know what will! Best times to visit fall between December to April and July to September.

2

Mirissa Beach

Now this is the type of beach that attracts all kinds of people including surfers, swimmers and sunbathers! It comprises of a beach stretch of over 2km, divided by the Parrot Rock and features a host of different types of restaurants and bars throughout the length. The left side of the Bay is notoriously famous among snorkelers while the right side of Mirissa Beach is a renowned surfing hotspot. The best part about visiting Mirissa is that it is such a tourism-oriented town meaning you will have an amply colourful selection of hotels in Galle to select from in the first place, from among even luxury labels such as Fortress Resort and Spa.

3

Secret Beach Mirissa

As suggested by the name itself, it is a tiny secluded beach that is not the easiest to reach and is therefore often overlooked by many travellers. But let me tell you- it is certainly worth all the trouble- and more!

4

Hiriketiya Beach

Shortened to be called Hiri Beach, this stretch of beach is getting more famous among the travellers by day. The currents over here make for the perfect waves and not to mention some truly photo-worthy backdrops that you are going to want to snap yourself at, regardless of how cliché it could turn out to be! Best times to visit fall between November to April and August to October.

5

Trincomalee Beach

The Trincomalee and Nilaveli beaches are 10 minutes apart and both belong to one of the most extravagant beaches stretches on the east coast of Sri Lanka. Untouched beauty and picture-perfect moments are guaranteed to abundantly present to you on your visit to the east coast. Best times to visit these beaches are between February and August. That being said do watch out for the possibility of spotting some dolphins and whales- especially if you are around between February and August.

6

Tangalle Beach

This pristine stretch of beach on the South-eastern coast made Sri Lanka a paradise to seek for all travellers! Given its location outside of the preliminary tour route of Sri Lanka, getting over here might be a bit of trouble, but worth a visit! It is an extremely quiet beach with only a handful of resorts around.
