5 Hidden Attractions to Discover in Bangkok – Rarely-Visited Places

Bangkok's visitors find that it is indeed a place of many adventures – from trying out flavours of which they've never heard of before to exploring vibrant markets, it offers a never-ending range of experiences – not to mention getting to discover the city's trove of hidden attractions!

1

Maeklong Railway Market

Now, this is something that will truly blow your mind – here, trains run through a packed market eight times a day, starting at daybreak. What's truly mind-boggling is the fact that these trains hoot past rather close to the produce-filled stalls and even vendors – it doesn't look safe at all! Nevertheless, the vendors have long adjusted their practices to accommodate the trains passing through their market spaces several times a day; some have even built shelves with wheels that make it easier to move them as they wish. Located within one hour's driving distance from Avani Atrium Bangkok via Route 35, this peculiar railway market is a must-visit, for it is one of the largest seafood and produce markets in Thailand.

2

Amulet Market

This is a great place to visit if you harbour a love for all things unique to a particular culture. The corridors at this market are lined with rows and rows of special trinkets that are bestowed with protective charms that locals believe can ward off any sort of evil – both spiritual and physical. Many locals (and foreigners too!) flock here to find a special medallion or even a figurine that will help them to protect their harvest or keep away evil from their new home and bring its inhabitants' good health. The amulets themselves aren't that large in size, in fact, many are smaller than a baseball.

3

The Artist's House

Quiet afternoons are pretty hard to come by in Thailand, and there are only a few places that will help you to find the much-needed peace and quiet in the city. One such place is the Artist's House, which is an age-old house turned gallery that can be easily visited during a holiday spent at one of the Bangkok city hotels. Anyone with the slightest passion for creative art should make space in their itinerary to include a visit to this place, which is located just beside a canal. At this place, you'll be able to witness a captivating Thai puppet show, that takes place on a small wooden stage.

4

Museum of Contemporary Art

One may come across the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chatuchak - it is a 5-storey building that holds a massive collection of exquisite paintings and expertly-crafted sculptures by famous Thai artists. This museum strives to promote and introduce the ancient Thai artistic traditions to not only Thai people, but also to ardent lovers of art from across the globe.

5

Lumpini Park

Lumpini Park is yet another great place to hang out if you wish to escape the bustling traffic of Bangkok. It is the oldest and the largest green space you'd come across in the city and you may witness the daily shenanigans of the locals if you decide to spend some time here. It is a massive expanse of 142 acres and many people flock here to escape the extreme heat of the city and to offer a change of scenery to their eyes.
