Inflatable castles (also called closed inflatable trampolines (CITs), bouncy houses, bounce houses, bouncy castles, moon bounces, moonwalks, or jumpers) are temporary inflatable structures and buildings and similar items that are rented for functions, school and church festivals and village fetes and used for recreational purposes, particularly for children. The growth in the use of such devices has led to a rental industry that includes inflatable slides, obstacle courses, and games. Inflatables are ideal for portable amusements because they are easy to transport and store.

History of the Bouncy Castle.
The first inflatable structure was designed in 1959 by John Scurlock in Shreveport, Louisiana who was experimenting with inflatable covers for a government request for proposal when he noticed his sons enjoyed jumping on the air structure. He was an electrical engineer and liked physics. Scurlock was a pioneer of inflatable domes, inflatable tents, inflatable signs and his greatest achievement was the invention of the safety air cushion that is used by fire and rescue departments to catch people jumping from buildings or heights.
The first space walk manufacturing company was in New Orleans in a leased warehouse that also sewed horse pads. His wife, Frances, started the first inflatable rental company in 1966 and in 1976 they built a custom facility for the production and rental of the products. They marketed the space walks to children's events such as birthday parties, school fairs and company picnics. These original inflatables did not have the enclosure of today's inflatables.
Their son Frank Scurlock expanded their rental concept throughout the United States under the brand names "Space Walk" and "Inflatable Zoo". Frank also founded the first all inflatable indoor play park called "Fun Factory" on Thanksgiving Day 1986 in Metairie, Louisiana. A second unit was opened in Memphis Tennessee called "Fun Plex" in 1987. Both locations closed after the value of the property became too great for the operations. The first inflatable was an open top mattress with no sides, called a "Space Pillow". In 1967 a pressurized inflatable top was added, it required two fans and got hot in the summer like a greenhouse. That version was called "Space Walk" and was adopted as the company name.
In 1974, to solve the heat problem, a new product line called "Jupiter Jump" was created that has inflated columns that supported netting walls which allowed the air to pass through. Further enhancements of this style were developed such as a line of castles and animals which are referred to as the "Inflatable Zoo". In the early 1990s, Frank created the first commercial inflatable water slide called the "Aqua Tunnel". Space Walk was the first company to bring an inflatable to the IAAPA convention, Showmen's Club and the American Rental Association.
The 1975 Neiman Marcus catalogue included a closed inflatable trampoline called 'The Moon Walk'. It was designed to increase children's safety.
Construction of a Bouncy Castle.
The surfaces are typically composed of thick, strong PVC or vinyl and nylon, and the bouncy castle is inflated using an electric or petrol-powered blower. The principle is one of constant leakage, meaning small punctures are not a problem - a medium-size "bouncy castle" requires a fan with a mechanical output of about two horsepower (consuming around 2 kW electrical power, allowing for the efficiency of the motor).
UK and Australian bouncy castles have specifications calling for fully inflated walls on three sides with an open front and foam "crash mats" to catch children who may jump or fall out of the structure.
Modern moonwalks in the US are typically supported by inflatable columns and enclosed with netting. The netting allows for supervision as adults can see in from all sides.
Another type of home-use inflatable has evolved, with a blower pumping in air continuously. Pores in the seams and material allow air to escape as children play, while the blower continues to inflate the unit. This category has emerged as a response to parents who wish to buy an inflatable for home use.
Standards of Bouncy Castles
In 2005, the most severe standards in the construction of an inflatable amusement were adopted nationally in Australia, forming Federal Standard AS3533.4. This was a landmark safety standard bringing the toughest design/construction/operation standards to the inflatable industry of Australia. In 2006 the European Union (EU) followed and introduced similar standards throughout EU called EN14960:2006 which was then updated in 2013 to EN14960:2013.
In the US, Pennsylvania and New Jersey require inflatables to pass engineering and safety standards before allowing the equipment to be rented out. North Carolina requires amusements rides, including inflatables, to be inspected annually by the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL). For inflatables to pass inspection, operators in North Carolina are required to have all training records, a current certificate of insurance, and device manuals. Inflatables that are damaged and not safe will not pass inspection until they are repaired.

There are also inflatable obstacle courses that allow for participants to have races/sword fights and compete against one another. These are commonly rectangular in shape, but can also be square if the course is maze-like. Most obstacle courses have two lanes, but some can have three or four. They feature various such as pop-up obstacles, climbing areas, slides, and tunnels. These are the best choice for very large events since participants move through them quickly.

Some inflatables are designed to allow games such as boxing rings, water football, penalty shootouts, basketball, rumbling, tug of war, and gladiator duels. These interactive inflatable games are made out of the same material that a continuous airflow bounce house is made of. Quad tracks are also popular and provide the perimeter for Quad bike racing.

All of our team members have also been instructed to increase hand washing and to maintain distance when working with customers.
If any of our team members show any mild flu like symptoms then they have been advised to follow the government advice surrounding medical care and self isolation.
Of course we will continue to monitor the situation and follow advice and direction given by the government and will take whatever action is necessary to protect the health of our customers and our team.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Please see the inflatable's list in the various sections on the left-hand side of our website. all items vary in price but are clearly displayed on our website. This is due to the different purchase costs and varying degrees of wear and tear that is likely to occur.
Please be aware that some bookings are subject to a minimum booking fee. These fees are as follows:
WHAT DO THE PRICES INCLUDE?
All bouncy castle booking prices include local delivery, a small charge may need to be charged for out of area deliveries, (please contact us for delivery rates). You will also receive everything needed to inflate the castle, which will be carried out by us at no extra charge. This includes a blower, extension cable, set up, inflation and collection. No Hidden Extras.
HOW LONG DO I GET THE EQUIPMENT FOR?
As long as you need it for, Most items are delivered before 12 noon to 7pm within the standard price. Overnight hire and late collections can be arranged under our flexible terms which is why we have become the most reliable and popular company to supply bouncy castle hire Wakefield, bouncy castle hire Ossett, Bouncy castle hire Horbury, Bouncy castle hire Normanton and the rest of the Wakefield postcode area.
Please bear in mind that all deliveries and collections are advised to be as flexible as possible to cater for any external influences that are out of our control such as traffic that could affect your booking. We strongly suggest a window of 2hrs to ensure everything runs as smooth as possible.
DO YOU HIRE OVERNIGHT OR OFFER LATE NIGHT HIRE?
Yes, overnight hire is fine, simply click yes when completing the booking form online or mention it to me when ordering over the phone. Please feel free to Contact us using the contact us tab at the top of the page. We also offer a late night collection 9pm available at an extra £30. If a time greater then 9pm is selected, we will add the £30 charge on for you which will be noticeable in the confirmations.
BACS/ Chaps/ Balance Transfer: BACS, Chaps & balance transfers are accepted providing payment is received no less than 48hrs in advance of the event. Please contact us or request an invoice for full payment details.
PayPal: PayPal Transactions will be accepted 3 days in advance of the event date but are subject to a 3% charge. We are also able to accept credit cards this way but it does require a call to the office to make arrangements.
Cards: We do not accept credit cards over the phone via a terminal. Invoice & Purchase orders: We are aware that some local authorities are bound by strict invoicing/ purchase order systems so please contact us to discuss your requirements. We will be able to help.
Cash: Cash payment on delivery is still acceptable.
Please note: We do not offer credit under any circumstances. All invoice work is to be paid prior to our arrival or cash will be expected on delivery should payment not have been made prior to our arrival. Please ensure remittance is sent in line with the directions on the invoice. We do not have an accounts department and as such, payment chasing is very difficult and time consuming. As such, All late payments will be charged at 10% extra, starting the day after the event date and will rise weekly until settled.
The Beaufort scale of wind force has been listed below to assist us with inclement weather decisions. After all safety is paramount!
Please remember that In addition to this there must be 1 dedicated supervisor per entrance and exit of an inflatable. There must also be a supervisor at the top of the steps for all inflatable slides.

HOW MUCH NOTICE DO I NEED TO GIVE YOU FOR A BOOKING?
You can book anytime. However, bookings get very busy so please book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. The sooner you book, the more likely the castle is to be available on your preferred hire date.
ARE OUR CASTLES SAFETY TESTED?
Yes, All our inflatables are tested annually by a competent person as required by law. The brand we choose for testing is Better-bounce and not the PIPA brand. Whilst we do not participate in the PIPA Scheme directly due to it not encompassing our entire entertainment stock.
WHAT HAPPENS WITH REGARDS TO TRAILING CABLES?
All cables are 240v blue commando plugs that are water resistant, however, due to the nature of our work it is very impractical to cover the cables up and in some cases, this can lead to overheating. As such we do not cover or tape down any cables. If you have any concerns over this, please let us know at least 7 days in advance of the booking and make sure your concerns are clearly displayed in the customer notes.
WHAT ABOUT LIQUIDS SUCH AS FOAM, BUBBLES AND OTHER SOLUTIONS?
We do not stock these items
33 WHO IS LIABLE FOR THE SAFEGUARD OF THE EQUIPMENT?
All items delivered to you are left in your care whilst we are absent until such time as we are able to collect the item(s) you have hired. In some cases this may not be as agreed due to circumstances out of our control. Please ensure that all equipment is kept in a safe and secure location, especially in peak season where collections can be as late as 10pm due to the high volume of work we undertake. Remember all theft from the property is the responsibility of the customer/ hirer, not our company. Please remember in addition to this there must be one dedicated supervisor per entrance and exit of an inflatable. There must also be a supervisor at the top of the steps for all inflatable slides.
34 CYBER CRIME ALERT: BANK DETAILS
Cyber crime is on the increase and is affecting hundreds of thousands of people on a regular basis. Our bank account details have been the same since 2000 will not change during the course of a transaction. If you receive any notification of a change of bank account details purporting to come from us, please disregard this and contact us directly for further advice using contact details you already have for us NOT details in the communication or sent. Cyber Crime professionals will always be one step ahead so please think logically and follow the advice given by the police and fraud UK before entering into business with our company. Our company will not be liable if you transfer money meant for us to an incorrect account.
ARE FACE PAINTS ALLOWED?
Face-paints are 100% banned unless you can guarantee the brand is Snazaroo. All other brands react with the PVC & cause severe staining and PVC burns.

The inflatable that exploded on the news was an inflatable trampoline and NOT a bouncy castle. The fear at the moment is coming from a complete lack of understanding of the difference between a bouncy castle and sealed trampoline.
The trampoline was a pressurised unit that was inflated to a ridiculously high pressure of around 150psi to be able to fire children into the air. Bouncy castles are completely different and do not run in the same way at all. They are soft in nature and have constant cool air leakage through the sewing seams.
A bouncy castle runs from a constant air source at only 0.1psi which is 300x less than a child's bicycle tyre for example and therefore 100% impossible to explode.
we understand the panic hype from the media portraying a bad light of inflatables and tarnishing the industry with the same brush but the Sun, Telegraph, ITV, Channel 4, The Mirror, Sky News, Harlow Police have all retracted previous statements about bouncy castles and now ensure they are perfectly safe.
