Top 5 Museums in Adelaide to discover its cultural and historical values – A treat for the history enthusiasts

If you are the culture buff in search what Australia has to offer, Adelaide is the place to be. From libraries to artworks and much more, this place offers some world-class museums to explore. Here are a few that you ought to visit.

1

Art Gallery of South Australia

For those of you out there who are inspired by art, there is so much that The Art Gallery of South Australia offers. Housed here are paintings from across the globe that will surely impress you. But that's not all, the museum displays works of art like sculptures, photographs and textiles that have been designed by some of the best artists out there. It is situated in North Terrace neighbouring the University of Adelaide.

2

South Australian Museum

This is located just next to the Art Gallery of South Australia and is the only place with an extensive collection of Aboriginal artefacts and fossils too! It is quite interesting to know about how the natives used to live in primitive times. As for the fossils, there is a giant kangaroo and a six-metre-long snake that you probably hope never does a Night At The Museum stunt! There are several Adelaide hotels close by which makes it easily reachable too.

3

State Library of South Australia

There is so much to explore about the history of Australia and it's all possible thanks to the 200-year-old State Library of South Australia. The idea for this popped up a fortnight after the Colony of South Australia was established back in the 1830s. Since then the library has been a shelter that kept the history of South Australia. It is one of the largest collections of research material available in the country. It is definitely an interesting place if you love to learn more about the country.

4

Migration Museum

The fact that there are so many immigrants in Australia will be evident when you begin to explore. The Migration Museum doesn't stand alone, it is situated behind the State Library in South Australia. The Migration Museum was built to showcase the history of migrants in Australia to promote multicultural unity within the community. How about an interesting fact? Before the building was transformed into a museum, it was an asylum where the native children were schooled.

5

National Railway Museum

It's all about the engines at this museum! Located just 20 minutes away from Oaks Adelaide Embassy Suites, this is the largest Railway Museum in South Australia and has recorded some of the greatest locomotive events that occurred in history. The museum was first established in 1970 and was later to moved to its current location at Port Adelaide. You will also be able to walk into the engine room and through the carriages of the age-old trains.
