Coral reefs are the gardens that bloom under the waters of the great big ocean, making it a colourful place just like flowering plants would on land. For those divers and snorkellers out there, here are a few dive sites you must-visit!

Raja Ampat

This is one of the most colourful coral reefs in the world and is located between the Indian and Pacific seas. The ocean currents here are very very strong, but they do bring in an abundance of nutrients that nourish the underwater garden here. Raja Ampat is a rich coral garden that is home to many rare species of coral both hard and soft. With these rare species of coral are the rare breeds of marine life that live here. Divers have spotted over 1300 species of fish including tasselled wobbegong shark and the walking shark which seem to be indigenous to the place.

Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands are part of the coral triangle and is home to 494 species of coral which makes for a very diverse system to explore. The waters also hold fantastic crevices to explore which makes up a great scenery for the underwater. The corals are extra bright here providing wonderful underwater photography opportunities for divers. The diving point known as the Twin Tunnels are rich with various types of fan coral and black tree coral to explore. The best places to dive in the Solomons would be Barracuda Point and Mary's Island.

Papua New Guinea

Fiji

These untainted waters shelter a coral reef that spreads across 10000 square kilometres and is said to contain 42% of the world's coral species. The world underwater here is breath-taking, and the site is known as the world's soft coral capital. The Rainbow Reef here is what you definitely should be seeing. It is where the dive attraction known as the Great White Wall is located. Expect to see about 1000 species of invertebrates, 400 marine plants, 400 corals and many species of sharks.

The Red Sea is one of the seven wonders of the world and the corals here are over 5000 years old. You'll find a large variety of hard coral here. Of the 300 species of coral that live here, Porites and Acropora are the most dominant coral in these waters. The waters are famous for several species of mantas and whales.
