5 Things to do within a Day in Shanghai – All That You Can Do!

Considered to be the most prosperous city in China; Shanghai has long captivated and enticed visitors and travellers alike. If you have only 24 hours in your schedule and you want to make the most of it while at this iconic city, we have you covered. Let's jump right in.

1

Visit the People's Square

While there are a plethora of great places of both historic and sightseeing value in Shanghai, one of the places that must be on your itinerary is the People's Square. Thankfully, since it is a major hub in terms of transportation, you can get there in almost anything. Getting there from a serviced apartment in Shanghai is the easiest thing. You can walk along the streets, explore the sights and grab a bite of breakfast if you haven't already had it at your hotel the likes of Ascott Huai Hai Road Shanghai.

2

Explore Shanghai Museum

Explore Shanghai Museum after you have had some breakfast. It is one of the first modern museums to be considered world-class and has a gigantic collection of artefacts from various eras of China's rich history. The museum is free to enter and as such during peak hours you may have to wait in line for a bit. So it's always advisable to get there early and get in at opening times. Make sure you opt for the guided tour in English if you are serious about learning your history.

3

Visit the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre

The Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre is also located within People's Square so let your walk take you down to it where you can spend some time gawking at the scale model of the city. It currently shows the city as it looks in 2020 but with never-ending developments, it is a work-in-progress that will remain so for the unforeseeable future.

4

Walk down Nanjing Road

One of the busiest streets in the world Nanjing Road is a shopping district that you must visit when you are in Shanghai. Before 1945 only one part of the Nanjing Road – East – was referred to as such, but today both Nanjing Road East and Nanjing Road West are one big shopping street where you can find just about anything. It can get quite overwhelming if you were planning on going shopping, but you should be okay if you start at People's Square and walk towards the east until you reach the Bund.

5

Take the Ferry to Pudong

As soon as you exit Nanjing Road you will be brought to the start of your next place on the itinerary. A ferry ride to Pudong. There is a large plaza that is situated by the river called Chenyi Square. Pudong is located west of the Huangpu River and has its own lot of great locations to explore. There's also a great nightlife on that side of the city if you are that way inclined and you can maybe hop out to a rooftop bar for a couple of drinks to end the night in style.
