Painting is something that's inherently come to someone, possibly with their genes. It's not to say that it isn't an art form that can't be mastered, but there's a particular group of people that are just amazing at it – and they arrive at this world once or twice per century! One of his most famous paintings is The Starry Night that is truly a delight to look at – whether you're an art lover or not. It is even used as a backdrop in popular movies such as La La Land as well. However delightful people find his works nowadays, he was considered as a madman while he lived and was coined as a failure – but today, van Gogh has re-written history as his painting are sold at unbelievable prices.
Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most exceptional artists that have ever existed to this date. Born in Florence, Italy, he started painting very early in his life and was considered a child prodigy. He nurtured an ardent passion for all forms of art and was rather successful in all that he did. As people started recognising his work, he gradually became famous. Even after his death, his magnificent creations are still exhibited in museums across the globe. One of his most popular work of art is 'Mona Lisa' and there's only a rare few who hasn't heard about this painting.
Pablo Picasso is yet another famous artist who is recognised for his unique style of drawing. He is popularly known as a Spanish painter, but his skills are extended to many areas and he also indulged in creating magnificent pieces from clay, printmaking, and he even worked in theatre designing. He is, in fact, known as the co-founder of the cubist movement, which incorporates geometric shapes when creating human forms and other images, which are quite captivating to observe. Picasso is hailed for its painting of Guernica – a dramatic representation of an incident of the Spanish Civil War (bombing of Guernica).
Best known for his effort and accomplishment on influencing western art, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (popularly known as Michelangelo) is indeed an extraordinary painter – he was also a notable sculptor, poet, and an architect of his time. 'The Last Judgement' is one of his popular paintings.
Known as a sensational artist who introduced the world to the metaphysical movement, Giorgio de Chirico is an Italian artist that was born in Greece. His art is quite notable for its indistinct threatening nature with keen contrasts of light and shadow, which instils an ethereal feeling in the mind of its observer. His paintings have extremely influenced surrealist artists. One can even look forward to purchasing paintings based on surrealism from art galleries such as the Sri Lankan Art Gallery.
