Essential things to pack for your Luang Prabang holiday – The must-haves you need to take!

Laos is a beautiful country where you can experience warm sun rays during most months of the year but that said you should be cautious when you are packing your summer dresses and bikinis to visit Luang Prabang as the country is religious and conservative so you need to make sure you are respectful of their norms, cultures, and beliefs when you are visiting their country.

1

Travel documents

It goes without saying that you need to pack your travel documents when you are preparing to go to Luang Prabang. You need to find out details if you need to obtain a visa and how you can obtain one. You can find out the details from the embassy in your country so you get updated information. While there are some countries that need to apply for a pre-approved visa, there are other countries that can obtain a visa on arrival. You need to also make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months.

2

Electronics

Your mobile phone, charger, any other devices such as a laptop, tab, a power bank, and a travel adapter are important electronics that you need to pack for the vacation in Luang Prabang. If you are planning to be travelling a lot then a power bank will be a good idea to have with you for when you are on the move. Many a hotel in Luang Prabang such as the Avani+ Luang Prabang have different power sockets to accommodate different travellers from around the world but having your own adapter will make the process a lot less stressful for you.

Clothing and footwear

Laos is a beautiful tropical destination that has the sun shining nice and bright during most months around the year but there are certain times of the year when the weather is unbearably warm or it is running cats and dogs that you need to wear layers to battle the cold weather. It is a good idea to pack summer clothing for your trip but you need to keep in mind to dress somewhat conservatively as the culture is religious and modest. Opt for more t-shirts and long loose pants over tank tops and shorty-shorts and remember that you need to wear a coverup or a robe when you visit temples as you

4

Luggage and bags

Pack your main luggage but remember to pack a backpack and a day bag so you can put in the essentials for your day trips. While you can keep your travel documents behind at your hotel, you need to be mindful to keep a copy of your passport with you in your day bag in case you are requested to show it to get entrance to a tourist attraction or even a restaurant. Take a photograph of your passport and visa to be able to show it at the request and pack the essentials such as water, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and other necessities in your day bag to take along with you.

5

Toiletries

Pack your essential toiletries so you need not purchase any from Laos. That said, if you are looking forward to travelling light you can get your shampoo, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste from a store in Luang Prabang so that you can dispose of them when you are leaving. It is best to also pack some basic medication that you might need and of course the medication that you are to take on a regular basis.
