Every automaker has had a blunder. They spend money and time on a car that is so bland or strange or useless that it eventually fills up used car lots everywhere. Sometimes they used parts from other companies’ models in their cars, other times they combined with another company to create an ugly lovechild. Either way, automakers have skeletons in the closet that they never want to revisit again.
This was an attempt by Chrysler and Maserati to make a car together. It used engine parts from a Maserati and a chassis from Chrysler, producing a car that neither looked good nor performed well. Essentially, if Reese Witherspoon and the Hunchback of Notre Dame had a baby, it would probably look like this.
The Aztec is one of the more modern worst cars ever made. For some unearthly reason, its design was approved all the way up to production, gaining a reputation for being completely hideous before it rolled off the line. Used car salesmen struggle to push these on customers still.
An attempt to compete against BMW cost Cadillac dearly. The Cimarron was heavy, front-wheel drive, and lacked power, along with being the most hideous car Cadillac ever made. Some fell that this was the lowest point ever in the history of Cadillac.
Although the Corsair had a cool name, it had absolutely nothing else going for it. Because it couldn’t stand out among the other cars of its generation, it fell, along with the entire Edsel brand, in a short time.
