Knightsbridge Neckwear was founded by Darren Farrell in 2007.
Darren says: “Knightsbridge was born out of my fathers’ love of the most famous corner shop in London. In addition to where that shop happened to be situated and his love of Great Britain in the 1960’s. This decade, together with my love of all things Retro, therefore, gave me the inspiration to start my first collection.”
The brand is situated in Ripon, North Yorkshire. We are a family run firm and we offer a combination of both quality and service. Our aim is to offer each customer a fabulous collection of luxury menswear products, such as our iconic paisley silk scarves.
We trawl classic British images from the 1960’s era and design our artworks based on these, adding our own unique twist. Although we are still in the depths of winter and feeling the bite of those low temperatures (some parts of the country more than others, admittedly), we can look with hope to Spring and then Summer. By then winter will be but a memory, and things will be heating up (okay, warming a little). Despite the warmer temperatures, however, in the starting months of spring, there will still be a reason to wear scarves to stay warm.
It obviously remains to be seen whether or not we will still be in a lockdown situation, but hopefully, by that point, the world will be opening up a little and we will all have excuses to get dressed up. Even if you can’t go out, why not treat yourself to mark the changing seasons with a new bow tie, neckerchief, or pocket square. You could even really spoil yourself and get all three.
At Knightsbridge Neckwear, the team are fully committed to making sure only the best products are available. In the following post, we wanted to highlight some you should consider for when the weather improves.
Bright and Colorful Scarves
With the changing seasons from winter to spring comes brighter skies and longer days. As we have already suggested, there is still a coldness in the air during the first half of spring, so scarves are still an essential accessory to have in your wardrobe. Especially if you feel the cold more than others.
With that in mind, if you have been wearing those browns, greys, and blacks throughout winter, you may want to invest in something a little brighter. At Knightsbridge, there is a wondrous array of bright and quirky scarves. Al made to the same standard, with the same high-quality materials. The great thing about our scarves for sale can also be used as face masks if the same social distancing measures remain for much of the year.
Smart and Sophisticated Neckties
Okay, we may all still be on Zoom and doing things socially distanced for some time yet, but that doesn’t mean there is no use for a nice necktie or two. You still want to look your best, even if are participating in a work meeting online through video conferencing or attending a “stay at home” quiz night with friends. At Knightsbridge Neckwear, there are plenty of great neckties to choose from.
In terms of style, patterns, and colouring, there really is something for everyone. Not all guys are the same and even if you think you have a unique style that can’t be catered to, the neckties available at Knightsbridge are sure to prove you wrong.
Finish that Smart and Stylish Look With a Pocket Square
Again, this may be something you may have thought was resigned to being kept in the wardrobe for a “special occasion”. However, as different lockdowns continue to keep us away from what we would all consider normal, it may be time, especially in the spring when more social gatherings are likely to take place, to get some nice pocket squares to add an extra bit of debonair gentlemanly class to your suits.
The interesting thing about the question realised in the heading of this post is that, if you have already settled on everything you are going to wear, you have already essentially decided whether it will be a necktie or bowtie you finish off with. Why? The right neckwear is dependent on the context it’s worn in, so it is determined by things like whether you are wearing a tuxedo or suit, how formal or informal the event is and the style of shirt you are wearing.
Although this sounds incredibly complicated, it doesn’t need to be.
In the following post, we are going to outline some tips and things to remember so that you always choose the right neckwear.
Which Should it Be? – Necktie or Bowtie?
Interestingly, there are only a small number of occasions and situations where you must follow rules about neckwear. Before we discuss those, the best way to choose whether you are going to wear a necktie or bowtie is by considering how casual or formal the event is.
For instance, if you are going to a more formal event, those when you are required to wear a tuxedo or have a black-tie option or black tie dress codes, then a bowtie is best, as it is better to lean on the side of being overdressed than underdressed.
When you are wearing a suit, or know you are going to a more informal and casual occasion, neckties are fine.
Common Situations and the Appropriate Neckwear
Useful clues as to the neckwear you should use are the type of suit you are required to wear if you know it.
You Are Wearing a Pleated Shirt
If you are wearing a pleated shirt, the choice is simple as it is formal. Many pleated shirts are worn with tuxedos and button studs. Neckties in general are casual and would get in the way of the button studs, so it’s not ideal, and you need to wear a bowtie.
You are Wearing a Tuxedo
If you are required to wear a tuxedo, it means the event you are attending is formal and there’s likely already a particular dress code established. If the event is a black-tie one, then you need to opt for a bowtie, not a necktie. However, if there is a bit of leeway, if the event is a creative or optional black tie one, you can wear the one you prefer. Make sure, though, it is a black silk or satin tie.
You Are Wearing a Suit
If you are wearing a suit to an event, then it would normally be recommended that you wear a necktie and not a bowtie. However, if you are looking to stand out, wearing a bowtie will do that.
It can be a little confusing if you are not familiar with the ins and outs and the dos and don’ts of neckwear and different types of events. Hopefully, though, we have helped you to understand a bit more about what you should wear and when.
Of all the things that are discussed with regards to planning for your wedding, when you’re a man, there is not often a lot of attention given to the suit, let alone the tie.
If you don’t believe us…watch any of those Don’t Tell the Bride programmes and you will see a lot of time and effort spent on the bride’s dress, the bridesmaid’s dresses, the venue and other things, with a small percentage of the time dedicated to picking out suits and men’s clothes.
However, like I Love You, Man, which is one of the few films that has a scene dedicated to men discussing what they are going to wear to a wedding, many men are taking more of an active approach to thinking about and choosing what they want to wear and not just settling on something.
There are plenty of other blogs out there that deal with choosing the right clothing, but what we want to help you with is choosing the best tie.
Use Your Wedding Colours
The first thing you need to do when choosing the right tie for your big day is to take into consideration the colour scheme. Whether you have a specific colour scheme or a theme, or nothing at all, you need to think about the colours of the tie and the colours of your suit and the colours of your bride and their wedding party. You need to think about it all because you want to complement rather than clash.
Pick The Suit
Most reading this will not do things backwards, so you will want to make sure you pick out your suit first before you pick the tie.
Although there are different schools of thought on what the best way is, we think it is often good to think about creating an impact when choosing the fabric. Consider a material that is quite heavy and is likely to hold its shape well. For example, if you are opting for a dinner suit or a morning suit, consider wool mohair or barathea. These fabrics are both known for creating very sharp and cool silhouettes.
There are some important rules to bear in mind if your wedding is in the summertime. Lighter toned greys are a very good, if formal shout. Grey has a real elegance to it and complements most skin colours and tones. Avoid the mistake of a navy blue, if blue is your thing, and instead choose a more grey-blue or mid-blue tone.
Now Comes the Tie
Now comes the bit we’ve all been waiting for – well maybe that’s just the team here at Knightsbridge Neckwear – choosing the tie. With the suit and colour scheme sorted, the first thing you need to consider is when you are getting married, which season and how formal your event is going to be.
When you have a summer wedding, you should pick a tie with a lighter colour and thinner fabric, than if your wedding is taking place in wintertime.
Are you excited to say I do to the love of your life? Or maybe you’re the best man who is supposed to give a speech at your friend’s wedding. Either way, you want to create an impression with your attire. Our wedding ties not only flaunt your character, but add to your charm. People will not only remember how you looked but what you wore at the event. We know that weddings aren’t supposed to be ordinary which is why we designed different many various patterns and colours for you to choose the perfect men’s wedding tie. We even have a collection of page boy’s wedding ties, so the little ones can look as dapper as the grown-ups!
An important part of the wedding etiquette is to choose the right wedding tie, which can be a challenge, but with our offer and expertise we feel we can make the choice for the Groom and Groomsmen an easy one. We have a wide range of the most current colours in skinny wedding ties and standard wedding ties across our various luxury fabrics. A matching hanky is available too which will complete that essential sartorial look. If you are a wedding guest you can afford to have more fun, by adding a brash of colour to a black suit or if you are wearing a blue suit, orange and pink ties make a bold statement. This style can also be worn for any summer prom event!
Our stylish Silk Wedding Ties and Silk Pocket Squares complement the majority of today’s modern wedding suits (with the exception of black-tie Dinner Suits). It is now very popular to wear regular style ties, tied in a full Windsor knot for your big day. This ‘look’ is also timeless. Cravats and Bow-ties have fallen off in popularity recently.
Outdoors, rustic, bohemian and relaxed weddings are continuing to be the new trend and with this style of wedding, so continues the trend for tweed. Our Tweed Ties or Wool Ties with Tweed Pocket Squares look great with the right waistcoat, tweed suit and tweed flat cap.
The latest trend and etiquette for the mens wedding party is to wear ties and pocket squares that coordinate with the groom. It is no longer essential for the groom’s party to match the colour of their ties to the bridesmaid dresses and wedding flowers. In fact, we advise all our couples not to get too caught up in colour matching, especially if you want to create a unique look for your wedding. It is often about creating your own individual look that gives you the confidence to relax and enjoy your experience of a lifetime.

It is no secret or surprise that a lot of planning is involved in a wedding. From the bride’s dress to what her bridesmaids will wear to the venue, cake, and food as well as how many guests will be attending and where they will be sitting, these are all things people know need to be sorted for a wedding. There are some things you may not have given a second thought about, such as choosing the right wedding tie. Wedding ties for weddings can be just as complicated as any other part, though. They don’t need to be, and we are here to stop things from getting too complicated.
You’ve probably worn a tie at least once in your life. The big problem with choosing ties for weddings is that there is a ridiculous volume of variety to choose from. To help you make sense of it all, we are going to break it down into simple sections.
First, let’s discuss the differences in tie shapes.
Necktie or Bowtie
You may wonder, do you need a necktie, or should you be wearing a bowtie? Well, the easiest way to establish that is by answering the following question – are you having a more casual wedding or a very formal one?
For casual weddings, neckties are the better choice. The great thing is that even if your wedding is hard to categorise in some way, you can’t go wrong with a necktie as there are only a small number of dress codes and scenarios where neckties will look wrong.
If you are having a black-tie optional or strictly black tie dress code for your wedding, you need a bowtie. However, they can work, if you can pull off the look, for an informal wedding, too.
Now onto colours
Wedding Neckwear Colours
You will find that a lot of couples opt for a wedding tie for the groom and the groomsmen in a colour that ties in with one or more of the overall wedding theme colours. However, there is no reason why you need to do this if it’s not important to you.
Choosing Fabric
After you’ve established the type of neckwear you want to wear at your wedding and the colours, you need to consider the fabric. The reason you should even be given this much intricate and specific thought towards the tie fabric is that some materials are better suited to certain seasons.
So, try to pie a tie in a fabric that works for the season your wedding is taking place in. For instance, for summer and spring weddings, linen and cotton are ideal, whereas wool flannel, knit silk and velvet ties are better for winter and fall.
What About the Groomsmen and Their Ties?
If you are not fussed about how the groomsmen look in comparison to you, then any of the options we’ve discussed above can be used for groomsmen ties too. If, though, you want to stand out more, there are several easy ways to make this possible:
• If the groom is wearing a necktie, the groomsmen could wear bowties or the reverse.
• Groomsmen wear solid colours when the groom is wearing a patterned tie
• Groomsmen wear colour ties when the groom is wearing black
• Groomsmen don’t wear ties and the groom wears a tie.
