Essential Techniques to Optimize Your Agricultural Tires – Enhancing performance

In a vehicle used for agricultural purposes especially, the tire is the main feature of the vehicle that transmits power to the ground. Thus, optimising the tire performance is very important. Read this article and be informed about increasing the overall productivity of an agricultural tire.

1

Check the lead

Have you ever encountered a situation where the front wheel of the tractor wears faster than the back wheels? This is an issue with the wrong amount of lead. This happens when the back axle and front axle are not synchronised accurately. According to the standards, the lead should neither be lower than 0% nor greater than 3%. Either way, it affects the overall efficiency and the productivity of the tire.

2

Correct the misalignments

When it comes to agricultural tires, geometrical faults make them wear out faster. If your vehicle tires are perfectly aligned and parallel to the vehicle, it's considered a correct alignment. If not, it's a misalignment and that should be fixed immediately.

3

Adjust camber properly

If the tires of your tractor are not fully vertical and not fully flat on the ground, you are about to have a camber problem. So, checking the tilt of the wheels with the ground level is very important. You don't need to go to a mechanic to get these checked, you can do it yourself if you have a little amount of patience.

4

Avoid soil compaction

Soil compaction is high if the tires are not good enough (or not maintained enough!). This is another reason why the productivity levels of wheels go down. To rectify this issue, you first need to establish the compaction type. It can be either surface compaction (type I) or deep compaction (type II). Type I compactions occur due to the wrong adjustment of the tire pressure while type II compactions occur due to over-weight loads especially at the level of the axle. The wisest thing to do is to use low-pressure tires and they help in fuel savings as well.

5

Adjust the tire pressure

Did you know that when the pressure adjustments of the agricultural tires are incorrect, that directly increases the level of fuel consumption of the vehicle? Yes, it does. The tire pressures to be adjusted when the vehicle runs on the road and the same when the vehicle is in the field are not the same, and you should be aware of this too.

6

Buying the best agricultural tires in Sri Lanka

Although there are many brands offering agriculture tractor tires for sale, you should be vigilant when choosing the right tire for your vehicle because it's going to be a long-term expense that you do. Choose a trusted company such as GRI Tires always, so that the quality of what you purchase is guaranteed. Have an understanding as to what the tires will be used (whether it's for livestock management, ploughing, etc..) and then decide on the type of tire you are going to buy. For regular work in the field, you don't need to spend bulks of money on a low-pressure tire. So, know the facts and choose wisely!
