Sri Lanka Hill Country Bucket List – Surrounded by the hills, it’s a complete paradise!

The most wonderful fact about Sri Lanka is that regardless of its size, this island destination has many interesting areas to explore. Areas such as Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are for exploring ancient ruins, and the hill country is for adoring the beauty of nature.

1

Nuwara Eliya

In the heart of the Southern Hill Country lies Nuwara Eliya, a scenic town loved by the British rulers in the colonial past. Nuwara Eliya is also referred to as 'Little England' because of the British influences that can be explored even today on buildings and houses in the area. For those who love golfing, there is an 18-hole golf course in Nuwara Eliya, and in addition to that, there are many parks, lakes, and streams to be observed.

2

Horton Plains

To explore wildlife and the beauty of nature, you can't just miss out on Horton Plains located to the south of Nuwara Eliya. This has been declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and thus attracts many travellers from all around the world throughout the year. Excellent trekking spaces are available here, and you may find important spots such as the 'World's End' on your way. Keep your cameras ready to capture exotic breeds of birds, lizards, and deer when they come out of the woody shades.

3

Ella

During your tour, make sure you spend at least one day in Ella. Ella hotels in Sri Lanka are ready to welcome you with their dining and accommodation facilities, and once all your Ella adventures are done, you may relax your selves in these venues. Little Adam's Peak, Ella Rock, Ravana Falls are some of the most popular attractions in Ella. When coming back, taking a train ride from Ella will of course be a great idea!

4

Tea Estates

As you must be aware, Sri Lanka is from where the world-famous Ceylon Tea comes! If you are interested in exploring how this tea is made, just head to one of the tea plantations in hill country during your tour. If you are staying at a property such as Bandarawela Hotel, do not forget to enjoy this exploration, which is both entertaining and educational. Most tea estates have their factories located close to them in which you can observe the whole tea manufacturing process.

5

Adam's Peak

The most significant and sacred attraction located in the southwest of the hill country is Adam's Peak. As per the locals, it's also known as 'Sri Pada'. During the pilgrim season (from December to May), thousands of Buddhists come and visit this place, and due to the belief that it's the sacred footprint of Lord Buddha, Adam's Peak has become one of the most blessed spots in Sri Lanka. The hike to Sri Pada requires you to pass 4800 steps which is not an easy task, but you won't feel tired when you take the steps with the crowds. Once you reach the summit, you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the surroundings.
