The most well-known classical garden in the region, the Humble Administrator's Garden is a must-visit and one of the main attractions in Suzhou. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it dates back to the early 16th century and features charming pavilions, lotus ponds, bamboo groves, water features, a teahouse, a rockery and more. Amongst the highlights are the 18 Camellias Hall, Pagoda Reflection Pavilion, Orchid and Snow Hall, Lotus Pavilion, Hall of Distant Fragrance and Small Flying Rainbow Bridge. You can also see displays of azalea, lotus and chrysanthemum in spring, summer and fall respectively.
Another key site in the city is the famous Tiger Hill which is an ideal place to explore. This pedestrian road by the riverside stretches from Changmen Gate all the way to Tiger Hill. As you wander along the street, you will come across ancestral temples, age-old guild halls and even stone cats which guard the bridges! Old Shantang Street, Tonggui Bridge and Yuhan Hall are among the key sites to visit, while not to be missed is a river cruise at night.
