Famous Singaporean Food – The must-tries for your taste buds

Is Singapore a place you've visited before or is it on your list of places you want to visit? Either way, you are going to find yourself travelling to this destination more than once. The local food is one of the delights of Singapore. So, try some!

1

Bak Kut The

This is one of the simplest yet one of the most popular local dishes here and certainly is one that you should be trying out too. Two stories revolve around the creation of this dish long, long time ago. One is that a beggar went to a food stall begging for food. Although the owner himself was very poor, he still wanted to help the man, so he threw in a few pork bones and seasoned the soup with the cheap spices he had. This turned into a soup that had the colour of tea, hence its name. Another is that this was a soup created to re-energise Chinese workers around here.

2

Wanton Mee

This is a noodle dish that is loved by many in Singapore but seems to have been originated in Hong Kong. The Singaporean version of the noodles is typically dry with pork char siew, wanton dumplings stuffed with pork and all that drizzled with a light, sweet sauce to top it off. You will also get a soup as the side dish. If you want it spicy, you will have chillies in your noodle mix, the one that's not spicy is usually the kids' choice which is mixed with tomato sauce.

3

Fried Carrot Cake

Oh...a carrot cake! Or is it? No, you are wrong, this isn't your typical carrot cake, in fact, there is not a single bit of carrot used in the dish. Instead, it is made with preserved radish, eggs and white radish cake. The white radish resembles a white carrot and that's where the name for the dish came from. The dish is both Singaporean and Malaysian and is served in two ways. Fried Carrot Cake is served black with a sweet sauce added to it and cake fried and served on top of the egg. But mostly it is just served in chunks.

4

Dim Sum

This is a distinctive Chinese dish that is served for a group of people rather than an individual. Barbeque pork buns, Siew Mai, Xiao Long Bao and Chee Cheong Fung are the most popular dim sum dishes in Singapore. Dim Sum can be found at hotels in Little India Singapore as well at restaurants by hotels like PARK ROYAL On Kitchener Road Singapore. If you love Chinese food, you are going to love Dim Sum as well.

5

Kaya Toast and Soft-Boiled Eggs

This is the traditional Singaporean breakfast that you ought to try even once during your visit. Kaya toast comes with thick square slices of bread toasted with egg or coconut kaya slathered on top and some butter for extra excitement. The eggs are left to boil in a metal pan with hot water for about 7-minutes, break it into the side plate and there you have it! Season with salt and pepper and dip your toast in, take a bite of deliciousness.
