My favorite tech tools that I hope to use in my future classroom!
Quizlet is an amazing way for students to quiz themselves on what they are learning or has learned or for teachers to quiz or practice material with them. Quizlet provides many different ways to study including a matching game, practice quizzes, flashcards, and even competitive games that they can play with their classmates to help them learn and to help the teachers know if they know the information or not. A major benefit is a great way for teachers to provide an easy way for students to study and review for their test or quiz, well a barrier could be hard for students to use because a lot of students need hands-on work. The SAMR level is augmentation, and the 6 C's being used are communication, Connectivity, and Collaboration and Quizlet is a student and teacher-centered.
Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform that brings engagement and fun for students and teachers. This tech is created for both being a teacher and student-centered. The 6C's Creativity and critical thinking are involved in Kahoot! with the SAMR level being redefinition. I could use this in my classroom to review before a quiz or helping my students review the material being taught and see they are grasping and what they are not understanding and need more review on. A benefit is that students get competitive which keeps them engaged but a huge barrier is no access to computers or phones.
Brainpop is a website that provides videos, games, readings, and quizzes for learning. This website provides these resources for many subjects that can be taught. It is a fun way for students to learn new subjects and keep them interested while doing so. It is also an easy way for teachers to find good and successful ways to teach their students. It allows students to be interactive and learn in different fun ways, but some kids may not have access to the website from home. The 6 C's being used Critical Thinking and Creativity and the SAMR level is Modification, Brainpop is teacher and student-centered.
Book Creator is a simple tool for creating digital books and allowing the students to take control. You can combine text, images, audio, and videos. The SAMR level addresses modification. Instead of giving a written assignment or book reading, students can use audio context and pictures to deliver information to their audience. Book Creator is student-centered and teacher-centered. The 6 C's addressed are collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Students can create books with their classmates and create books with audio and video. The main benefit of this website is allowing students to have creative freedom on how to address and complete assignments. The main barrier to this is not having internet access or computer access.
Flipgrid is a great way for teachers to get students more involved. It is an awesome way to help the kids come out of their bubble and truly be involved in the class. It also helps teachers to make sure that each child understands exactly what has been taught and how much they need to know. It truly gets each child involved in the class and feels included. The benefit could be that it could really help get the kids interactive and give them a voice. But a barrier is that some kids may feel awkward in front of the camera and not do well with it. SAMR: Redefinition, Six C's: Creativity and Communication, Flipgrid is student-centered for the most part.
Classdojo is a way teachers and the student’s parents can communicate because that allows teachers to create a virtual classroom to communicate with their students' parents and families throughout the day. and know-how the students are doing. I would use this in my future classroom to monitor and share behavior with families, as well as just use it as a communication tool. The benefits would be the easy communication between teachers and families, but the barrier would be that the parents or guardians are answering or ignoring the issues that need attention for their child. The 6 C's is communication which is the target purpose of this application, the SAMR level is an augmentation and it is teacher-centered.
Whiteboard fi is an online whiteboard tool for teachers and classrooms. I would use this tool to add some fun learning to my day as well as getting to see where my students are at with the lesson being taught without feeling judged by other students knowing what they are doing. Allowing me to look over the answers of my students privately will allow me to focus on the students that truly need some extra help and practice. The 6 C's are communication and critical thinking, the SAMR level is a modification, and I think it is more teacher-centered and student-centered. The benefits are that teachers can see their student's responses and decide what questions or tasks they want to present and what they are struggling with students not feeling like they are being watched by other students. The barrier would be the distraction of technology and students may still be shy and do not want teachers to know that they aren't understanding.
Nearpod is an amazing way for teachers to truly connect their students to their lessons. Students can interact with the lesson while the teachers are teaching it. It is an easy way to teach but still keeps the students interested in what they are learning and it makes it easier for students to understand the material that is being taught. It keeps the kids engaged and interested if you have to do lecture-style teaching, but it may not be easy for the kids to use the technology or they may not have access to technology. The SAMR level being used is Substitution, and the 6 C's: Connectivity and Thinking Critically and Nearpod is student-centered.
Google Classroom is a free web service developed by Google for schools that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments. Google Classroom is a one-stop place for assignments to be posted by teachers, completed, and submitted by students. I would use this in the future to organize my class, post assignments, and pictures for all my students to see. It is both teacher and student-centered. The benefits would be the easy use and access but the barrier would be students not actively checking the classroom and keeping up to date with things on their own. The 6 C's are communication, the SAMR level is augmentation.
Ed puzzle can easily create beautiful interactive video lessons for your students you can learn the lesson as they go along and interact along with the video and track students' progress with hassle-free analytics as you flip your classroom. It is very much teacher and student-centered. An important of the 6c's being integrated is Critical thinking and the SAMR level is Modification. One including myself could use this in my classroom to check my students' understanding of a topic. A Benefit is that it allows teachers to know if your students watch the videos all the way through and Barrier being once again access to a computer.
