The rock-cut figures of the Buddha located at Buduruwagala which roughly translates to mean "Rock carved in the likeness of the Buddha" are at least 1000 years old. The tallest of the carvings stand at 15m. The entire site is a historical wonderland. Especially of note is the fact that the was the Buddha's robes are carved here differ from the rest of the country. There's also an indication that they were once painted in saffron colour. It could teach us a lot about art and sculpture back in the day.

Magul Maha Viharaya

Located south of Sithulpawwa is another ancient site, but this with more of a romantic history than a religious one.
