Kalutara Beach

Kalutara Bodhiya

Richmond Castle

Built over a period of 10 years from 1900 to 1910, the Richmond castle is an Edwardian mansion located at proximity to the city of Kaltura. With 16 large and expansive rooms with over 34 windows and 99 doors, the castle boasts a well preserved colonial splendour and with its magnanimous outlook, it still mesmerizes the onlooker. The castle has been built using materials brought from around the globe – it has Italian floor tiles and bath-ware, Burmese teaks, Scottish glass décor and fitting and fixtures from England.

Thudugala Ella

Located a few kilometres away from Kalutara lies a splendrous waterfall known as the Thudugala Ella. Frequented by many tourists the waterfall is set amidst a lush and surreal surrounding. At the bottom of the cascade, there is a pool where tourists could take a refreshing plunge. The waterfall and its surrounding also attract a variety of migratory birds. The cascade could be seen at its best during the monsoon period in the region.

Fa Hien Caves

Being a well-renowned tour destination in the region of Pahiyangala in Kalutara, the fa Hien caves was one of the many archaeological sites in Sri Lanka where ancient human remains were discovered. Archaeologists also state that the skeletal remains that were found in the caves belonged to the Pleistocene era.
