Best attractions in Bandarawela – Waterfall Treasure Trove

This is a place in the hills of Sri Lanka where the weather is fine during most of the year and the air is fresh and inviting. The best time to visit Bandarawela would be from December to March where you can indulge in adventurous water sports and sightseeing. Here are a few of the best places to visit.

1

Glen Falls

Located in the midst of tea plantations and other clusters of forest, the sight of Glen Falls is truly pleasing to the eye. It is not far from Lover's Leap Waterfall but is a wonder of nature to behold from afar rather than close up. The abundance of the waterfall is seasonal. It usually dries up during the dry season and cascades down beautifully during the wet season.

2

Nanuoya Waterfalls

This is one of the most amazing waterfalls in Sri Lanka and is quite famous as well. The water comes flowing down the Nanuoya River crosses Udaradalle and comes gushing down about 25 steps that make up the milky white waterfall. The force of the water is such that there is always a misty look to the site because of the spray of water. Nanuooya Waterfall can be seen from the main road while you travel to hotels like Bandarawela Hotel. If you feel like having a closer look, take the road by the railway station and keep going for about 1.5 km till you reach the falls.

3

Bomburu Ella Waterfalls

This is more of a small collection of waterfalls that comes from a tributary of the Uma River called Duugal River. There are 10 small waterfalls in total plunging down into the greens. If you want to reach the falls, you will have to go on a trek through the jungle and passing boulders to find this treasure.

4

Dambethenna Tea Factory

What would a visit to the hills of Sri Lanka be without a visit to a tea factory? Dambethenna Tea Factory is situated in Haputale town towards the east. At the tea factory, not only can you buy tea, but you will also be taken on a grand tour of the factory. This is an opportunity to witness how tea is made right from plucking to drying and then processing. The scenery also makes for a great backdrop for photographs.

5

Diyaluma Falls

This is the favourite among all the waterfalls among both foreigners and locals. It is definitely worth getting to the top to see the mesmerising view of the surroundings and the drop from above. Diyaluma Falls has many rock pools of freshwater towards the upper waterfall. The hike though can be a little strenuous. However, it is definitely a nature lovers' dream to visit the place during a stay at Bandarawela hotels.
