5 Tips for Shenzhen Travellers – Things to know before you go

Shenzhen is one of the largest urban cities in China and boasts a population of about 20 million people living and working here. Planning on travelling to this destination on business or leisure? Here's a list of things to know about Shenzhen before you visit.

1

China's tallest building

Shenzhen is home to some of the tallest buildings in all of China. The Ping An IFC is the 4th tallest building in the world and was set up in 2018. The building includes a mall, a classy observation deck that is 550 meters above the ground and is also one of the world's highest hotels. Visitors usually visit the observation deck and love to enjoy meals at restaurants while enjoying the view. Just 4 km away from this skyscraper is another, KK100. This building is a whopping 442-metre-tall building and is the world's 22nd tallest building. It is the second tallest building in Shenzhen. The observation deck offers wonderful views of the ocean.

2

The outdoors in Shenzhen

This city is popular for its outdoors. Wondering what this means? The city's got mountains, beaches and parks like no other in China. Tourists often visit the wonderful beaches for a fun time in the sun, but when the weather allows it of course. Mountains like Wutong Mountain have been listed in TripAdvisor's Things To Do List at number 2 for its trails. It is said to be the Pearl River Delta's second tallest mountain only after Hong Kong's Tai Mo Shan. The parks in the city are charming with splendid views of greenery and are the perfect place for people-watching.

3

Cantonese cuisine

When it comes to Cantonese cuisine Shenzhen is second to none. There are several tea shops, cafes and eateries where you can enjoy some delicious dim sum as a snack or have congee for breakfast. Try out dining the way the locals do even at your hotel the likes of Ascott Raffles City Shenzhen. It's not only Cantonese cuisine that you will find here, but an array of international food as well at the restaurants in malls.

4

The place for bargains

This applies mainly to electronic items that are abundantly found in Shenzhen. Huaqiangbei electronic market is known to be one of the biggest and best electronic markets in the world! Another would be the SEG computer market which has a 72-floor market. There are eight electronic markets in markets in total including these two. Its all well and good to go and explore these places but be warned if you are going to buy anything from here. They tend to charge exorbitant amounts from tourists, so it's always better to go with a local and know your electronics well.

5

Best time to visit

The weather can get quite hot and very rainy during the summer season, so it is advisable not to go to during this time of year. But the weather is mildly warm and sunny from September to December during autumn. There is less rainfall during this season as well. So, this is the time for which you should book a Shenzhen serviced apartment and prepare your stay.
