Like many other major cities in Sri Lanka, Wattala too has a diverse population which means the city has a vide array restaurants and eateries that serve food items of different cuisines. Visit the beach

Being a coastal city Wattala too has a golden sand beach. This beach is much different from any other that you could see around the island as it is located at proximity to houses of fishermen. You could see boats docked along the beach. If you visit the beach during evening hours you could not only see the brilliant views of the sunset, you could also see fishermen heading out to the open waters to catch fish. Although the beach is not suitable for any recreational activities such as surfing or snorkelling, it is ideal for a relaxing stroll along with your loved one by your side.

Hamilton canal

Wattala is the endpoint of an ancient canal that was once used by kings to transport goods from inland to the port. The canal was later used by the colonisers to transport cinnamon. Today there is a small park and a suspension bridge at the Wattala end of the canal and while you are here you could see small boats using the canals to travel inland. It is also said that the canal extends all the way up to Negombo.
